Boab 73
Andrew Dickson reports from the Emirates Stadium WALTER SMITH has made four changes to his team for today's Emirates Cup finale against hosts Arsenal. Kevin Thomson makes his first start for the club in nearly nine months after a cruciate knee ligament injury last November. He is expected to play the first half then make way for someone else at the interval as he continues his comeback. Allan McGregor also starts and it's his first inclusion in the first XI since March. He'll get 90 minutes this afternoon as Smith looks to give him valuable game time. Steven Naismith and DaMarcus Beasley are the other men introduced after they made a good impact when they came on in the 1-0 win over PSG yesterday. Otherwise it's the same team that beat the French, with the defence of Steven Whittaker, Madjid Bougherra, David Weir and Sasa Papac remaining in place. Pedro Mendes and Steven Davis join Thomson in a three-man midfield, with Kyle Lafferty playing through the middle up front with Naismith and Beasley either side of him. ARSENAL: Almunia, Fabregas, Eduardo, Gallas, Song, Silvestre, Wilshere, Clichy, Arshavin, Eboue, Merida. Subs: Sagna, Rosicky, van Persie, Denilson, Ramsey, Djourou, Bendtner, Traore, Watt, Szczesny. RANGERS: McGregor; Whittaker, Bougherra, Weir, Papac; Davis, Mendes, Thomson; Beasley, Lafferty, Naismith. Subs: McCulloch, Boyd, Novo, Velicka, Miller, Aaron, Alexander, Smith, Little, Shinnie. BigAndyM 9
I think it'll be a midfield 5 due to a fear of Arsenal but would like to see Naismith and Lafferty together. Juno 2
That team today in a 4-3-3 is arguably our strongest eleven I don't think we'll be bold enough to go for a 3 pronged attack. I think you'll be surprised man. All 4-3-3's are hard to break down due to the one holding midfielder anyway, just take a Mourinho team. It's not the ol' euro tactic.
