On top of that Rockstar clearly have set a pattern of releasing numerical titles on new generations. It also doesn't make much sense to start the next part of the franchise on consoles that will be replaced soon enough. Lastly if it was for this gen i reckon it would have already been released... It would not take them 3 years to re-purpose the GTA4 engine for the current gen, unless they completely started afresh.. Believe it or not retailers rarely get any inside info from publishers! For one: they would be the biggest source of leaks out there... Two: most of major retailers have strained relationships with game publishers. Until there's an official announcement from either the developer or the publisher then take any thing that the retailers say with a pinch of salt... 99% of the time they are talking out of their arse.Take Gamestop for instance.. they were telling everyone Guild Wars 2 was releasing on the 28th of June 2012.. despite ArenaNet(the developer) confirming several times that the game won't be released until later in the year.Most likely the reason behind GAME and the like taking pre-orders is because people keep going in and asking.. Maybe a special case, but hell people had Duke Nukem Forever on pre-order for over 10 years. For the most part pre-ordering is just a marketing tool.
