Just a waiting game now troops , Just had a wee read of what big Hately's been saying

I fear for future of our game if my old club are stripped of SPL titles today

28 Feb 2013 08:11

THE last couple of years have seen Rangers vandalised and pillaged by all and sundry - enough to make you suspect a conspiracy theory- so today hopefully common sense will prevail and Lord Nimmo Smith will call off the dogs.

Lord Nimmo Smith is expected to make his decision today I’VE never been one for conspiracy theories. I tend to sleep easily at night, while so many others in this warped country sit under their beds with a torch-light and a tin-foil helmet.

No wonder. I guess Scottish football will probably drive us all doolally in the end.

But the more I think about what’s happened to my old football club over the last couple of years, the more sure I am that I can smell a big fat rat.

Since Craig Whyte first laid his goggle eyes on Ibrox, Rangers have been vandalised and pillaged by all and sundry.

At times it has felt to me as if Scottish football has taken it in turns to inflict as much damage as possible at a time when the club has been at its weakest and unable to protect itself.

It’s been pretty brutal. At times it’s been downright nasty. And it’s actually made me suspect there really might be some bad people and dark forces out there who have been engaged in deliberate acts of guerilla warfare against one of football’s great institutions.

You may think that sounds a tad far-fetched but the more I examine what’s been done to Rangers, the more I see it as a sustained and calculated attack.

So today at Hampden I am hoping for common sense to begin to prevail and for this bloodlust to finally relent.

Because today is the day Lord Nimmo Smith will deliver his verdict on the club’s use of EBTs and, as far as I can see, there can be only one outcome.

When the law of the land has already declared that Rangers were not guilty of any wrong- doing or tax evasion, then I cannot for the life of me figure out why Nimmo Smith and his cronies from this Kangaroo Court are even still required.

Unless, of course, the SPL believes they operate above the law which governs the rest of us. And that couldn’t be right. Could it?

I hear the argument that the EBT tax case and the SPL inquiry are different because Nimmo Smith’s panel is an investigation into whether or not Rangers broke league rules over undisclosed payments to players. But I ain’t buying it.

Today, Lord Nimmo Smith can do the right thing and call off the dogs. He can clear Rangers of the accusations that they cheated to win titles. Anything else and I’m afraid I – and many, many others – really will be convinced there is something far more sinister going on in the shadows of the Scottish game. That Rangers really are being persecuted and attacked by people who want to make them suffer and ultimately put them in the ground.

And if that happens then, I’m telling you, there will be no way back. The entire game in this country will have become so divided and unstable that the damage done will be irreparable. Scottish football will, in effect, hate itself to death. I do a lot of travelling up and down the country and there are people throughout Britain who are astounded at the way in which the sport up here has managed to self destruct. Like me, they cannot begin to understand why the SPL is still going after Rangers for titles in such an aggressive fashion long after the courts have cleared the club of any wrongdoing.

By doing so, they have lit a flame under an already volatile climate. And they are meant to be the ones leading the game?

At a time when football in this country is on its knees? When the SPL itself is in desperate trouble, with clubs on the brink and supporters staying away in droves? My god, they can’t even find themselves a sponsor. And yet they continue this attempt to cause further damage to one of its two star attractions?

Make no mistake, it’s the Old Firm who sell Scottish football. Without the big two, there would be no TV deal and no commercial tie-ups.

And if you don’t believe me then take a look inside Celtic Park any other weekend and count the empty plastic seats.

Not even Celtic supporters can be bothered watching Celtic win the title. And if Celtic fans are bored of watching Celtic win, why on earth does anyone believe ESPN or SKY will want to keep on paying for the privilege?

Honestly, it’s utter madness and it cannot be allowed to get any worse.

But that’s exactly what will happen if the SPL go after Rangers’ titles. There will be no way back.

dunno what happened there n I don't know how to fix it ,ffs

Good read and very true what he is saying.

I know where you are coming from mate, I always thought this would be about the cash. The only person to benifit from the titles would be liewell. They can now publish their account, and pretend everything is once again rosy.

FWIW if we were given a small fine for each error( 15k for each) I would have no problems with that. But we all know they need way way more tha that to balance the books.

Yes I agree mate. Guilty on administrative errors with a small fine for each. I think we'd all agree something like that would probably be acceptable.

A massive fine though and we take these bastards. End the spl through every court in the land

No title stripping and small fine to oldco. CG was correct to resist Rod Mackenzie and SPLs demand to accept title stripping as a condition of membership for Rangers. The mans a hero.

What a farce and waste of money driven by Lawells desire to close the gap on our 54 titles. Commission found no unfair competitive advantage gained by use of EBTs and if anything it was technical/administrative breach of the rules. The company had always published the fact that it used EBTs etc etc. Few SPL chairman need to keep a very low profile. Feckin muppets...

Doncaster, Mackenzie , Regan needs to be fired..

Does the appeal process follow the same as everything else?

We appeal and they give us a larger punishment?
