New owners want to ‘bring Steelmen back to the people’

That is the message sent out by the new owners of Corby Town as a summer of rebuilding at Steel Park gets under way.

It was confirmed ahead of last weekend’s 2-0 win over Bedford Town in the Calor League Premier Division that a consortium of local businessmen had completed a takeover of the club.

The deal was led by Paul Glass while six other Corby-based men have also injected cash as part of a £250,000 deal to stave off the threat of administration.

The new board have now also confirmed former Stewarts & Lloyds manager Steve Noble as the new chairman with Gerry Reilly, previously a director, being named vice-chairman.

Glass has admitted the main aim is to get the club back on track and sort out issues between themselves and Corby Borough Council.

Speaking on behalf of the consortium, Glass said: “We are looking to work with the community to bring the club back to the people of Corby.

“Nobody is getting involved in this for any personal gain, we are doing it because we love the club and love the town.

“We are looking to meet with the council as soon as possible with a view to dropping any legal action that may have been started and to find a solution to the situation.

“The board met on Monday night and we are prioritising things.

“The first things were to stave off administration and sort out the situation with the council.

“We are working our way through things and prioritising the debts that need to be dealt with and then we will be looking at budgets for next season.

“We only got the club on Saturday so there has been a lot to sort out in a short space of time.

“But we are Corby people who love the club and we know there is a big rebuilding job ahead of us.”

The seven people who have invested money into the takeover are Glass (Echo Personnel), Nathan Bailey (Bailey’s Skip Hire), Phil Toon (Wise up for Work), Steve Nicol and Tony Muir (Platinum Roofing), Nick Sadler (CPSpecialists), Dan Hitchcock (In Touch Interiors).
