"Urquhart left Rangers and now Telfer has done the same. If Ally McCoist isn’t asking questions of his youth department, perhaps he should be. Is there a problem with the way some boys are being treated in there?"

There is an arguable case for that question to be reversed, perhaps. :pipe:

Urquhart left for first team football and is yet to make his Coventry debut.

Yes I'm aware of that,Dude. There is never a guarantee that a young player will make the grade,no matter how much transfer fee is paid for him,but at least Urquhart is in a position to push for a place to make his debut if he works hard and listens to his coach/manager.

I'm well versed in the pitfalls of bringing in young talent who fail to progress, but when you do bring in a youngster and see your decision validated then it's worth the risk.

Much as Ally has questions to answer, we have people extolling the virtues of our u15s and below... What the fuck is Sinclair doing?

If you listen to the likes of Elfideldo and others then the answer is he's making a fucking pigs ear of it.

It does my fucking head in that we have some off the best young talent in Scotland that would love nothing better than play for the club they love but time after time we show a complete lack off faith and trust in them when it comes to the first team, no wonder they all go elsewhere.

What is the point in getting these young guys in at the age off nine train them for another nine years then letting them go just as they should be getting their chance in the first team?

Yes l know lots can't/won't make the step up but the amout off good young players we let go only to sign overpriced has beens is fucking criminal.

McCoist is inept at spotting good young talent it seems as though if your face doesn't fit then ally won't give u a chance dreadful state of affairs we lose loads of young talented players due to mccoists lack of faith in youth

My problem with that is we keep hearing that and at the same time everyone is bleating that we aren't playing the youngsters. Either Sinclair is making a bollocks of it or he isn't and we're getting guys like Macleod, Aird, McKay, Gallagher etc in and around the first team. Surely it can't be both.

He was offered a contract, but couldn't be promised (rightly so) a first team spot. This could be a case of two points of view being right under the circumstances of each.

There's no doubt that Telfer is a Bear and is talented, but he may have been badly "advised" by his agent in this case, thereby invoking his right to move.

Rangers have done what was required to keep him, but missed out due to being straight up with the lad, and only time will tell if the negotiators were wrong. You can't force a person to stay.

The irony is that urquhart has gone to Coventry City under Pressley, remember him, one of our youth players who wasn't good enough for the first team at Ibrox.

The fact is that there are hundreds of players who are good enough to play for hundreds of teams, but very few who are good enough to play for Rangers. It's a fact of life that Rangers will have an abundance of talent available to us, very few have/will make the break through into the first team.

The circumstances at the moment dictate that we must win the Championship this season, just like we had to win Div 3 and Div 1. At Dundee Utd, mediocrity is expected and delivered. Not here.

To be quite honest,MacLeod is the only player out of that lot that I would deem as having a genuine chance of being a regular in that team at the present time.

Aird is only there because he is the only genuine wide player we have got available with pace to get past defences, but as a 19yr old he has at least got his foot in the door if he improves his crossing and final ball, because he seems to have the right attitude to improve himself.

Gallacher I haven't seen enough of to make a proper assessment of, but all being equal he is in a good place to progress (depending who Ally brings in for next season)

As for McKay, he has to learn that there is a lot more than having skill to make the grade as a footballer, because if he doesn't change his outlook he will end up like John Fleck.

at a time where we can barely avoid the bus fare let alone the transfer fee for a new player, this is a massive concern.

we are a shambles from top to bottom when we can't even hold on to our own young players as they know they will always be bench warmers to also rans like Ian Black, Jon Daly, etc

Ally has a short memory. He should remember what it was like for him coming through and how if you are good enough, you are old enough instead of having a desperation to play distinctly faded talent throughout the team

Ally, tbf, when he was coming through knew he wasn't good enough, that's why he went to St Johnstone then Sunderland before signing for Rangers. His reasons for signing for St Johnstone were that he would have a far better chance of getting into the first team at an earlier age. QED

The media too scared to scrutinise McCoist here. Surely to fuck the point of this article is Rangers are producing talent, why are they leaving.

All you need to do is ask the boys, the answer is first team football. McCoist is suffocating the route from youth football to first team, mainly through the medium of overpaid under performing players.

Its a shame to lose Telfer, if he proves to be as talented as hes being made out.

But at the end of the day we need to be back in the big time and I would quite happily play experience to get us back there whilst blooding the odd youngster. Rangers future is more important than Charlie Telfers future quite frankly.

As it says we have an issue when it comes to youngsters getting a regular game, and when doing well keeping their position. Ally appears to have more faith in the expierenced players he brings in, and these guys always get chosen first over youngsters, even if they have had a run of 10 piss poor performances.

Fans are also yo blame by putting so much pressure in youngsters when they do make a mistake, and expect the team to win everything.

The worrying part of the story is about Urquhart who thought it best to leave with no club to go to rather than sign on again at rangers.

Claiming that the manager ignores youth is doing a disservice to Aird and MacLeod who have established themselves in the 1st team. Aird, in particular, through sheer determination, hard work and no little talent cemented his place in the 2nd half of the season. They deserve acknowledgement, despite how unwilling you are to appear to praise the manager.
