Its a great read, and doing well.

(tu)

I hear Chapter Two is due for release anytime now. (tu)

Let's hope it has some new characters, and maybe some more bizarre plot twists, just to freshen things up a bit. :pipe:

I'm sure the scriptwriters will be looking at that. :sherlock:

But if you don't have a day or two to read the 70 pages, the butler did it, and you need to give GB some money.

For the plot - just think - game of thrones but the good guys don't get killed and all you have to do is pay a few quid to help develop the plot!

An update from An Old Soldier...

Hello gb,

Just a little update on my health as promised. At present I'm on treatment for my renal cancer which is making me really sick and tired but I'm getting there.

My discharge from the army is imminent and I'm waiting on SSAFA visiting this week along with the Royal Regiment of Scotland welfare officer to look at my bathroom and adapt it for future needs, so here's hoping.

My other cancer is going to need attention soon so if you see someone in Stirling town centre with 3 heads and 4 arms its only me!

But anyway staying positive and once again thanks for the tickets. My wife says they are a godsend as it gives her a break .Will keep you updated with any changes.

Thank you.

- An Old Soldier

We'll be providing some tickets for him and his Army Buddy for the St. Mirren Cup Game too, so fingers crossed for Good Results all round. (tu)

When reading that letter, this poem came to my mind, and I have put some of it in this post.

"When things go wrong as they sometimes will,

When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,

When care is pressing you down a bit,

Rest if you must ........ but don't you quit."

That was the message I got from the update from The Old Soldier, and it puts into perspective any trials or tribulations a person may have, and unless your problems are life threatening, you don't really have a problem.

My heart goes out to each and everyone of our "Old Soldiers" from all branches of our forces, not only for the part they have played in keeping our shores safe, but also importantly in the case of the gentleman above, who now has to carry his backpack a little further due to his terrible illness, but still he does not complain, but shoulders his pain and still walks the walk with dignity and a sense of humour that we would all be proud to own.

"So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit,

It's when things seem worst that you must not quit."

And as we approach November - Lest We Forget.

Our November Fundraiser was originally designed to peak on 11th November, but this year we brought it forward, meaning that we've virtually done all our November Fundraising before November - meaning that we can now take a step back, and leave November free for all the proper Veteran/Remembrance Charities who traditionally benefit from the support of the Blue Pound around this time.

We'll still keep the November Fundraising thread running through November, not to promote the fundraising, but just so that the many Loyal Fund Members who haven't yet donated will know where to go once they eventually log in and see my reminder PM.

There are still dozens of names on my 'No November Donation' list who never miss a Fundraiser, so I'll expect to hear from many of them at some point.(tu)

Last week, one of the chaps featured in that video attended his first trip to Ibrox in many years, and had the rare luxury of enjoying it from the Ibrox Bar.

He loved it and can't wait for the next one. :21::cheers::21:

I also got a PM from a relative of another Veteran, who was there too ...

Hi gb,
I was in at Erskine today to see [ - ] and he told me you spoke to him last week at the Livinston game.
he is getting a big Gers fan. I think he has been to more games this season than me
he is really enjoying it thanks again for all your good work

So anyway, what's next?

Oh yes - a trip to the Bo'Ness Steam Railway for 2 Homes. (tu)

That should be easy. Erskine can organise everything - All we need to do is pay for it. (tu)

Happy to report that the Residents of Erskine Park Home enjoyed their day out on the Bo'Ness Steam Railway.

So that's another Resident's Wish made its way from the Tree of Longing, to the Wall of Satisfaction thanks to the RM Erskine Fund.

I'll upload some photos when I get them.

Total cost: Take a wild guess...

In other news, while we've been pottering about with train sets, the Big Boys have been doing some proper work...

On Friday 16 October, donors to the Erskine Glasgow Home Recreation Project had the opportunity to visit the new recreation area as it reaches the final stages of construction.

We are all delighted with the end result and thank each and every one of our donors for making the new facility a reality.

Residents of the Glasgow home, both now and in the future, will gain so much from having their own recreation area. It will be a place where they can meet daily for social activities, where they can spend precious time with loved ones and where they can enjoy some of the simple pleasures in life that so many of us take for granted.

Thank you to everyone who supported the project.
