Warburton Plans To Train On Alloa's Astroturf

Recommended Posts

Artificial pitches do not cut up, the bounce and run is consistent (if a bit erratic but good players soon get used to it)and there is absolutely no reason why better players cannot adapt to it quickly. As for the previous management's worries that they proved an injury risk, where is the evidence, apart from one Temps injury which could just have easily occured on grass. If artificial surfaces really did cary a higher injury risk how would the part time clubs who use them be able to afford the invariably higher insurance premiums involved?

The only thing you need to worry about is the burns after a slide tackle!

Rangers attitude to playing on 3G worried me.

Any team with good players should want to play on it as it should give you an advantage over lesser footballers.

Can remember Cammy Bell and another player asking to be left out because of the astro turf.

The jury is still very much out scientifically although there may be a slight increase in risk of ankle injuries. Its more a perception thing, I distinctly remember Liverpool struggling to adjust to the first artificial pitches (Luton and QPR spring to mind) but other clubs dealing with them comfortably. The very best pitches these days seem to be a hybrid of natural and synthetic.

Part time clubs use them as they increase their income potential with community use and less postponements. This represents a significant income which would offset any increased insurance premiums (if they exist).

I think the general mindset of the players last season was indicative of the general attitude sent down by the manager who seemed to be wed firmly to a 1980s mentality when it comes to coaching and general footballing outlook. I think this was a particular issue with a couple of players and alterations in their approach on artificial surfaces may have led to their injuries and general attitude to playing on them.

Rather than use a good level surface to play the ball on the deck we put it into orbit to avoid it as much as possible and got found out as a result.

Everything Warburton does is thoroughly professional and makes the Chuckle Brothers efforts of the last three years more and more cringeworthy as more comparisons can be made.

Wouldn't surprise me if alloa don't wet it before the game, they used to as it suited them wanting to pass as knew we would go long.

But they might try n dry it up a bit to stop the flow of the ball.

Fancy Warburton to have the team ready plus in all games of football if you have possession it's hard for the opposition and that is the biggest area of change in our team, we demand the ball and control game accordingly.
