LaudrupsPatrickBoots 13,510
Looking at the way the club statement was worded regarding him coming back to training, I wonder if the way he was treated when he showed up has anything to do with him going on the sick and then coming to this agreement. It was suggested by more than one person in the media that it was clearly designed to break him. It could maybe explain the seemingly low payoff as well. Reformation Bear 6,453
£250k to bring this to a close is a lot lower than I thought it might be. But of course Barton and his agent / lawyer will have ensured that its a net sum so probably be grossed up for tax and the actual amount paid would be higher than £250k. Questions still remain about Warburton's and the Club's handling of the 'issue'. When Barton has gone and the matter concluded no doubt the Club will do a sweeping under the carpet and decline to explain its handling of the 'issue'. They should not get the benefit of doubt that Warburton and the Club execs acted in the only way possible. It was a landmark signing - where a lot of effort went in to attracting the player to come to Rangers in the first case, followed by a heated argument which seems to have been allowed to get out of control resulting in an expensive compensation pay off. The only useful thing now is that the matter is brought to a close quickly. Neither Barton's or Warburton's or the Club's reputation is enhanced by the way this has been handled. Far from it. It was a big gamble by the club to sign Barton. We knew that, he had previous and plenty of it. We thought he had screwed the nut and Dyche told Warburton he was a model pro. That's ok at a club like Burnley, less pressure although playing probably at a higher level. The pressure of pulling on that royal blue shirt and playing for the famous Rangers cannot be underestimated. Sadly for Joey and for us that's exactly what he did. Orange Persson 547
Joey loved The Smiths you know. He was quoted as saying he thought that Johnny Marr had some amazing........rifts. Couldn't care less about the story coming out or not. Only fodder for media or him to make money from. He stepped out of line and got hammered.....end of. I never wanted him here but got on with it while he had a jersey. It was a risk. Every business takes risks. We need safer signings and less risks now. K.A.I 36,183
250k is a bargain to bring this shite to an end. Good riddance Joey. Although I hope a few more at Ibrox would follow him right out the door and we can start another rebuilding job and hopefully do a better job this time. Think you and many on this thread completely overstate the significance of this. It's just one in a long line of players who haven't lived up to expectations and/or have fallen out with a manager. We have wasted far more money than this on players in the past and will no doubt do so in future. It's part of football. Big news this week, overtaken by other events next week. I'm sure he will have got a reasonable sum but not convinced that Barton held all the cards in any payoff negotiations - unless he wanted to take early retirement from football. BLUEDIGNITY 33,638
As soon as he got signed on the sick that would be enough for the flood gates to open, every company's arse collapses especially when the likes of the old stress ploy is pulled going down the mental health road even though it is joey barton involved ! Moody Blue 9,346
At least this sorry state of affairs for all concerned can be brought to an end and we can all move on. I didn't like when we were after him but was willing to support him and liked his opening interview when he signed- said all the right things. We knew he's a tweeter so should've been reined in straight away but we let him go on about Brenda, etc. when he shouldn't. Has turned in to one embarrassing clusterfuck and has been a very expensive failure.
siamthedanger 2,847
Total disaster from day 1...like many others I could not stand the guy but was willing to give him a chance. He came up here all bullish saying he was this and that but ultimately was shown up by teams such as Hamilton and Kilmarnock not to mention that prick Brown getting the better of him(can't get worse than that surely). Someone at the club should pay for this mess but who?
