It is Penn State type in nature, and something I believe will be referenced in years to come when sexual abuse within sport is discussed/googled. As it develops, I genuinely believe others will go down too outwith that club. I simply can't comprehend there being no statement or formal enquiry announcement yet by the SFA nor government. I think the SFA in particular urgently needs to take a stance or they'll also become embroiled to their cost. Fuck them if it happens. This is only the beginning. Kaiser Wull 203
45 minutes ago, KingKirk said: What's the potential compo outlay for these scumbags couple of hundred grand or tens of millions. Ex player going after them for 100k that's why I ask The value of a claim depends on several factors which will vary from individual to individual. The first of these relates to the injury sustained by and the effect of it. In cases of sexual abuse, psychological injury is usually far more significant than any physical injury sustained. The effects of abuse on a person's mental health can have lifelong effects (such as an inability to form and maintain relationships, self harming, substance abuse, depression etc.) which require ongoing treatment. To prove this, specialist medical evidence will be led on behalf of the victim. The Defender will usually also have the victim examined by experts instructed by them, the opinion of whom may be quite different from that of those instructed by the claimant. In such a 'battle of the experts', the court decides which evidence is to be preferred. But that's not all. The effect of the injury may also have resulted in the victim sustaining probable financial loss. For example, the victim may have given up the chance of a career as a football player. The victim may also have encountered difficulty in finding and holding down employment and thereby been deprived of earning a reasonable income. These losses are not assumed and have to be proven. It's not an exact science in cases of this sort but it's possible to paint a reasonably good picture of what the victim's life and career would probably had looked like but for the abuse. Needless to say,the Defender would probably choose to challenge this as well. No two victims are the same, though, and that holds true for the extent to which the effects of abuse have affected them and, therefore, the amount of compensation payable to each of them. If they’re sued successfully it’ll be a case of they’ve served their punishment and we’ll move on and learn from it - that’ll be the narrative from the SFA and SPFL. If the rumours are true about their being hundreds of victims then the only thing I can see is celtic going into admin as doubt they could trade whilst paying off the millions to victims, paying their £60 million wage bill, running costs plus CO-OP loan. Not to mention their lecky bill for their disco lights.

Claimants have to agree to settle on a liability not admitted/non-disclosure basis. We don't know if any or all of them would be willing to do so. It could be that some insist on a public apology as part of a settlement deal. ii. This is now a very public matter. People will ask questions if these claims were suddenly dropped. iii. There's a case already proceeding in the All Scotland Personal Injury Court. celtic are fighting that one. Might they also want to fight the other cases? They may believe that they have no legal liability to compensate Torbett's victims. iv. More claims seem likely, particularly if McCafferty is convicted. What starts as a trickle could end up as a flood. v. Settling claims can be a very expensive business and has to be accounted for. That's a few good posts you've made mate. Re iii: This is their only 'get out' as far as I see it with the latest piece of shit. If McCafferty is convicted, they have nowhere to go. Re i: If they do indeed go down the no legal liability route and lose one, just one, then we'll see lots of these (NDA's) as they will then know that they don't have a defence and save themselves any further disgust from the public with more sordid details emerging from each case. If they don’t hold them responsible then football is fucked in our country and I’m afraid if our football team allow it to go unheeded so is our team. KingKirk 25,605
These cunts can't say sorry for one massive reason It could end them by doing so They have no idea just how deep this goes IMO. From within the club yes but outside just how far have the scumbags went with the abuse. That isn't something they can control so they wont be saying sorry. We all know they should then deal with the aftermath however keeping scum fc afloat is more important to them It'll be down to the courts to prove a link then all bets are off right now plenty in the boardroom will be having many a sleepless night
