Overrated players past & present?

What players are/were overrated in your opinion?

For me:

Pogba, Thomas Muller, Delle Alli, Sterling, Stones, Firmino, Mane, Hart. To name a few.

I just don't see what other people seem to see with these players, I think there are much better players in their positions that don't get half the hype.

Pogba especially, he's big and strong with a decent touch but other than that what makes him special? Moussa Dembele of Spurs is 10x the centre-mid he is.

im gonna go for a curve ball here, i dont agree with the fawning over pele, watching old WC videos etc he doesnt stand out like you'd expect going by the way he's talked about in world football, Socrates, Zico, Jairzinho and of course garrincha were all just as good imo

how that brazil team in spain 82 never won the fucking thing i dont know, Italy invented the "defend like utter bastards" concept that stuck with them for 2 generations now that night

The Holy Trinity of overrated footballers.

ronaldinho wasnt overrated imo, people knew he was a lot of flash and no substance at times, however, when he was in the mood there was no greater sight of free flowing football

His peak was incredible, but he didn't have the longevity to be remembered as one of the all time greats imo.

Carlos ✔

but Ronaldinho and Beckham!! Give yourself a shake.

I would say Beckham was underrated if anything. His work rate, passing, free kicks and crossing were phenomenal! Just because he didn't dribble like Messi and finish like Shearer does not make him overrated.

Beckham was a dead ball specialist, of that there is no doubt and he had a great pass on him. However, other than that he didn't have much to him game, even compared to other English midfielders.

Dele Alli is 20 years old and putting up Lampardian numbers from midfield this season. He's not an incredible talent by any stretch but I don't know why anyone would be anything other than impressed by him.

Tin hat on. Zidane is overrated. Big game player (most of the time) but a step below the likes of Messi and Maradona in terms of consistent impact, if not talent.

I never ever got the hype surrounding Edgar davids

Unique image, technically excellent, hilariously aggressive. People lap that shit up. It is funny how he became a kind of generational icon without ever being one of the genuinely elite players though.

Think you're spot on. It was more a commercial gimmick than actual talent based.

Seedorf maybe. Never understood how he had the career he did.

Probably a controversial one.

I always felt he was quietly underrated, never getting much credit compared to his team-mates, until Sky did an episode of "Football's Greatest" on him, which I thought was a bit OTT
