The potential BT deal - how much we'd get

Apologies if this is being discussed somewhere else but I can't see anything. Feel free to move if so.

The Scottish Professional Football League could be set to go it alone with BT Sport, reportedly pocketing £31m a year for signing an exclusive broadcast deal.

Such a rise in the prize fund for clubs would have a significant impact for many under the league's revenue distribution system.

The current prize pot for 2016/17 is £21.1m, £20m of which comes from broadcast deals.

Distributed revenue is due to increase to £23.6m in the final season of the existing BT/Sky Sports broadcast contract in 2019/20, with TV money rising year-on-year until the end of the current deal.

Assuming the same level of non-broadcast revenues are maintained, clubs could start the 2020/21 season with £32.1m up for grabs.

So how would that be divided up? The SPFL revenue distribution formula works on a percentage-based system, increasing incrementally from bottom to top.

As its 12 clubs receive more than 82% of the total pot, Premiership sides would enjoy the biggest rise in revenues under the new deal.

The club finishing in bottom place would make close to £1.5m before parachute payments are added in. The league winners stand to pocket £4.3m.

Anyone notice when they bought up the SFL to keep us under their control the biggest give away to other clubs came from the 2nd placed pot as you can see from the table its by far the largest drop from the money above. Guess who would be expected to be in that position for a while? Sly bastards attempting to make it easier for them to stay ahead of us financially for as long as possible. Every little bit counts especially when we have this shite merchandise deal. They knew what they were doing here.

I wonder why a broadcaster would be interested in having the sole rights to show the Scottish Premier League and put more money on the table?

It's certainly not because Rangers are back, because we're deed and Scottish football doesn't need us anyway.

Exactly.

BT are determined to get the rights to every Old Firm apparently.

Don't they realise Rangers died...

If they can afford to splash that kind of cash, maybe BT could up the wage budget to find a commentator who has a positive interest in our club rather than the pretend one at the moment that was once our captain.

Tbh £1.3m should be a fart in the wind for us.

It all mounts up. 1.3 million is actually a wedge in Scottish football. Its nearly 25% of the top prize and a lot more than nearly all players in Scottish football cost including all but one of our own. Depressing that our game is so skint these days I know but If you keep winning that more times than not over the years your soon well ahead. Why else do you think all the money to pay the rest came from the second pot and not more evenly from the top two positions?

Its not worth bitching about I agree as we will benefit when we do topple these cunts but there is no doubt why they paid the rest off mostly using the second prize. Just a bastard that we are so down on all our usual income streams and that 1.3 million would even matter. But never underestimate the skulduggery of these scumbags. The whole restructuring was a stitch-up to make sure of control of us and hence the TV income.

Unless I'm reading that wrong, is it not less than 100k each the top flight teams will get extra?

Anything more is to be welcomed but the real problem is they took on all those SFL clubs to control the TV income and now we are stuck with them when anyone can see that our wee nation should really only have one professional league of 16-18 clubs and another similar amount in a part-time or seriously cheap division below. We should be trying to maximise our top league by squeezing value out of every penny and that can only happen with shit amounts by giving it to the top league. We have something like half the number of English clubs with only a 10th of the population. We'll never do as well as we should until we become more realistic with what we have and efficient with what we earn.

We need to get into the online streaming market in a bigger way.  That's the future of TV.  Look at Netflix, Amazon Prime, Box-nation, UFC, WWE.  If we can be ahead of the curve o it it could benefit us financially in the long-term.

are you talking about RangersTV? ahead of the curve? lmao. it's 2017 at a time when HTML5 has been around for years and 4K is up and coming and yet we still are using flash player and it's not even in 720p HD. 4K is 4x Full HD (1080p) so yeah we are no where near the likes of Netflix/Amazon when it comes to streaming quality.

We won't get anything, any moneys due to our club will "surprisingly" be the exact same figure we get fined for on some trumped up SFA charge.

I tend to agree with you there. Its possibly one of the most corrupt and most skewed league structures out there. Though most of the other ones are designed to benefit more than one team...
