Bruno Alves begins Rangers career as he trains with new team mates for first time ... and he could make his debut tomorrow

Alves could make his first Rangers appearance in a closed doors friendly against St Johnstone tomorrow after spending the summer on international duty.

Bruno Alves has finally joined his new Rangers team mates on the training ground - six weeks after finalising his move from Cagliari.

The veteran defender had his arrival delayed as he competed in the Confederations Cup with Portugal through the summer.

But he was at Auchenhowie this morning to join his new team mates in training and could make his first appearance in tomorrow's closed doors friendly against St Johnstone.

Rangers then face Marseille in a glamour friendly at Ibrox on Saturday before travelling to Hillsborough for a clash with Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday, July 30.

Alves, 35, is expected to be a mainstay in the heart of the Rangers defence this season after being lured to Ibrox by manager Pedro Caixinha.

And the 93-times capped former Porto and Fenerbahce ace is exactly the type of presence the Ibrox club are needing to drag them forward, according to ex-Ibrox defender John Brown.

Speaking to MailSport yesterday, Brown likened Alves to ex-Ibrox skippers Terry Butcher and Richard Gough and said: "He’s a top pedigree player who is a European Championship winner with Portgual.

“He has played at the highest level all over Europe so he’s bound to make a big difference.”
