SPFL board could face major shake-up in 2017/18 election

All six club representatives could be new faces as league prepares for Monday's vote.

All six slots reserved for clubs on the board of the Scottish Professional Football League could be occupied by new representatives in the 2017/18 season.

Monday's vote at Hampden will lead to at least four new faces, with Ann Budge and Ken Ferguson the only two current members standing for re-election.

Hearts owner Budge is up against officials from Dundee, Hamilton Academical and Rangers for one of the three positions reserved for Premiership clubs.

John Nelms, Les Gray and Stewart Robertson respectively are standing.

Peter Lawwell and Ian Maxwell, from Celtic and Partick Thistle respectively, are not standing for re-election.

In the Championship, two spots are reserved for club representatives.

Dumbarton's Les Hope, Martin Ritchie of Falkirk and Morton's Warren Hawke are standing, as is current board member Ken Ferguson, of Brechin City.

Following Hibernian's promotion to the Premiership, their chief executive Leeann Dempster is not standing as a return candidate.

Leagues One and Two share a solo representative. Ayr United's Graham Peterkin and Iain Dougan of Stranraer are standing.

The six appointees will join new chairman Murdoch MacLennan, chief executive Neil Doncaster and independent non-executive director Karyn McCluskey on the board.

Doncaster, Lawwell and Maxwell, together with Aberdeen's Duncan Fraser and Alloa Athletic's Mike Mulraney, will all serve as the SPFL's appointees to the Professional Game Board, which is operated by the Scottish FA.

Oddly, Lawell is not standing again.

Option 1 - CFC & RFC used to take a turn on the board each year & it could be a return to this.

Option 2 - Lawell is standing down just as SPFL is about to confirm that there will be no title stripping & no revisiting the LNS inquiry decision. He can now say that he wasn't a part of that decision & can make a lot of, what he knows are, empty threats & concern and can have his "hands clean"

Or option 3 - Lawwell has his slanty eyes on a better placement within Scottish football to hurt us, he may feel being on this board jeapordises that.

That would be high up within the SFA btw.

Indeed, he's certainly not doing it for the good of his health, that's for sure

Interesting to know who will be standing for re-election. Then taking into fact the campaign to rid the SFA of Reagan and Doncaster for incompetence. Imho, Liewell is manoeuvring to become president of the SFA, by doing so it will give him power over the rule book, punishments and who gets representation on these boards. Rangers are in danger of being the whipping boy indefinitely, as they will be isolated from these boards.

Maybe he want to be in the position to have ultimate say on what fines/charges/bans/title-stripping CFC get, if any.

Agreed. but what are our board and Club1872 doing to counteract this?  A game of chess is being played, Rangers are already in check, leaving this to go any further will result in checkmate or tipping the king and resigning to the fact they've won.

There's not much we can do IMO. They have the Scottish media right under the thumb and other Scottish clubs have snuggled up to them in recent times.

Club1872 is the best bet

Maybe the club/Club1872 need to speak with the 'owners and investors' of these Scottish newspapers to resolve this situation.

Our club toys with them when the directors are the targets.

1872 has so much baggage that it struggles to unite the support. Even when it makes a decent request that on SM and forums we boycott/ignore/cease links to Rhebel articles it's ignored.

Even here, quite appallingly.

Some Rangers fan's will still buy the shit rag. Some who have ST at ibrox forge career writing for it. And posting articles on here.

We really ate a dysfunctional disorganised and divided basket case of a support.
