So was this an accident or suicide attempt?

Something weird about it anyway . If it's the bridge I'm thinking of , I'm surprised he hasn't  broken anything instead of just being treated for hypothermia.

so was this a suicide attempt or just fancied a swim when pished?

That he was in the Kelvin for 90 minutes slightly suggests he was more motivated to living than dying. From the point when he hit the water anyway.

RIVER rescue footie ace Gary Mackay-Steven was booted out a nightclub for being too drunk shortly before plunging into the water, The Scottish Sun can reveal.

Bouncers showed the sozzled Aberdeen winger, 26, the red card after spotting him crashing into fellow revellers.

Girlfriend Gillian Mckechnie, 24, and ex-Celtic team-mate Stuart Armstrong, 25, also left to check he was OK following the snub at trendy Sanctuary, in Glasgow’s west end.

Shortly after, Mackay-Steven leapt in the chilly River Kelvin where he was plucked to safety suffering from hypothermia at 4am on Sunday.

An onlooker said: “Gary was letting his hair down as he has a week off because of the international break.

“He hit it pretty hard and was really enjoying himself. But he was so drunk that he was barging into people and causing a scene.

“Bouncers quickly spotted what was going on and chucked him out.

“Stu and Gilly weren’t going to just leave him so they came out too.”

We told how the Scotland cap jumped into the river during “high jinks”.

Parkhead ace Armstrong attempted to save his stricken pal from the fast-flowing current before 999 crews arrived.

A source close to Mackay-Steven desperately tried to play down the nightclub clash, which came hours after he was an unused sub in the Dons’ 4-3 win at Partick Thistle.

They said: “There are different versions of what happened in the club doing the rounds.

“I suspect that may be because everyone was so drunk they have got no idea what was going on.

“But the football club has no problem with it. The players were told to go out and forget about football because they are off for a few days.”

Mercy crews were called to the scene near the Benalder Street bridge early on Sunday.

A boat was dispatched and rescuers pulled out the wideman, who had spent around 90 minutes in the water.

He was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and treated for hypothermia.

We revealed the star, of Thurso, Caithness, returned to his Glasgow flat on Monday in shorts and T-shirt despite his scare.

Bosses at Sanctuary refused to comment.
