Gers Fans Applaud celtic Supporters Ibrox Disaster Tribute

Gers fans have taken to social media to show their admiration for a mysteriousCeltic supporter who left a touching tribute to the 66 Rangers fans who died in the Ibrox stadium disaster.

The fellow, who was dressed head-to-toe in Hoops attire, left a wreath at the Ibrox memorial on Saturday, shortly before the Old Firm game, reports the Daily Record.

Pictures of the celtic fan talking to a security guard soon went viral with rival supporters quick to show their admiration.

The tragedy occurred at an Old Firm match held at Ibrox in January 1971. While fans were exiting a staircase a terrifying crush engulfed them - leaving 66 dead and 140 injured.

Wearing a full celtic green and white striped kilt and glengarry hat, the unidentified man is pictured chatting to a steward outside Ibrox's Broomloan Road Stand entrance.

The second picture shows a bouquet of red and yellow flowers tied to the Ibrox stadium disaster memorial. The cast bronze sculpture of then-team captain John Greig looms above the tribute and bricks with the victim's names under a small plaque can be seen too.

Twitter user GordonL2 posted the pictures with the caption: "We've all seen this guy before dressed in his gear, but I thought it was really considerate of him putting flowers down at our memorial."

Stuart MacQuarrie said: "He's a decent guy who turns up for the commemoration on the 2nd of January rivalsnotenemies."

Craig Paterson added: "Quality fellow. Regardless of the team you support good to see respect."

Snookerloopy commented: "For him to take time out to do that is class, not many would even consider it."

Rab Clark said: "Good to see a bit of respect shown. Fair play to the guy."

To which GordonL2 replied: "The fact that he doesn't trumpet the fact he does it is all to his credit."

While user Wee Yin said simply: "Wonderful gesture. Class act."

Other social media users suggested that the man has laid flowers before, and makes a habit of it when an Old Firm Derby is scheduled at Ibrox.

Twitter user Cuickie said: "He does it every time he's at Ibrox."

Darryn Causby added: "He does it every game, he's a veteran too, good guy. ǝpɐbıɹq uǝǝɹb ǝɥʇ give him some abuse."

Some social media users pointed out that at one point the celtic scarf holding the flowers to the memorial was pulled off.

David Graham said: "Not sure if the flowers were still there but when I passed at 11.00 someone had pulled the scarf off and it was lying on the ground. Shame."

GordonL2 replied: "That's disappointing to hear, but it won't take away from the original gensture...but as you say it is a shame."

David Graham added: "Exactly. The scarf was just being stepped over but fair play to him for doing it, says more about the idiot who pulled it off."

Tayla commented: "I've seen some post hating the scarf as its green. Fair enough it is a celtic scarf but this is really nice of him."

At least 75,000 fans attended the match on January 2nd 1971. Many Rangers fans decided to leave early and it appears that a fan's fall on Stairway 13 contributed to the deadly crush that followed.

A total of 31 teenagers died while the youngest victim was nine-year-old Nigel Pickup, attending his first football match

Shit dress sense but fair play if he does it every game.

If he has done it before then I have massive respect for him, as he clearly hasn't done it for attention if it's only being picked up on Now.

Can honestly say nothing they do offends me but any comments they make about Ibrox disaster simply astound me. Young kids dying at a football game should be above any rivalry.

Nice gesture

But fuck them. Many of his clubs fans will be calling him all the bastards

He's not in the majority

Who gives a fuck what many of his club's fans will be doing? They didn't lay flowers. celtic didn't lay flowers. He did. He's a gentleman, and that's all that needs to be said.

fuck them, sick of this pandering shite, across the country every week they sing about the Ibrox disaster, they spraypinted shite about it outside thr ground, one man doesnt make up for it, especially the way their scum club has been acting, when i see the majorty of celtic fans doing the same, when we can have minutes silences instead of applauding because they scum cant behave then ill respect them, one half decent guy lying a scarf doesnt make up for the decades of disrespect their fans AND CLUB have given us and those who have died. Fuck them. As I said a nice gesture from one guy, but fuck the rest of them in general hes in the minority, he would have been spat on by his own fans if theyd seen him doing it

all this constant pandering to their club and political parties with this facebook birthday card pish. The majority of their fans want us dead and want to destroy our country, many of them would love to see us all as a culture dead. Its worse than facebook on here these days. They are our greatest rivals, while id never wish any real harm on someone for supporting celtic at the same time I hate their club and everything it stands for

this kind of shake yer hands pish belongs on Pie and Bovril not on Rangers pages, get it tae fuck along with the rest of it
