Rangers reject Harry Forrester is 'a game player rather than a trainer' says Wimbledon boss Neal Ardley

Wimbledon boss Neal Ardley has questioned on-loan Rangers midfielder Harry Forrester's mentality when it comes to training.

The Dons boss has made Forrester a regular starter for the English League One outfit in recent months but believes the winger is 'a game player rather than a trainer'.

The 26-year-old winger was allowed to leave Ibrox after falling out of favour with former boss Pedro Caixinha .

The Portuguese axed the former Doncaster man and made him train with the kids over the summer alongside Michael O'Halloran and Rob Kiernan, with all three players ending up leaving Ibrox.

Forrester, who agreed a one-year loan deal, has made 14 appearances and scored two goals for the Dons after a slow start to life at Kingsmeadow.

Talking to London News Online , Ardley said: “One thing we have realised as a staff is that he’s a game player rather than a trainer.

“We were looking for signs he was getting his fitness and where it needed to be. We were looking in training and not seeing it.

“Having put him in the team and still watching him train, he is maybe one of those who gets himself really up for games and shows out more than in his training, although it is not poor.”

With Caixinha having now left Rangers and Graeme Murty being put in temporary charge of the Ibrox club, Ardley isn't concerned that a January recall could be on the cards for Forrester.

Asked if Premiership side have an option to break the loan deal in January, Dons manager Ardley said: “The honest answer is there probably is.

“But I’m not sure it is going to happen, I’m pretty confident something is not going to happen.

“Most season-long loans have these sort of things in there but it is not something to really worry about.”

He had his moments with us mate and showed on a few occasions he was a match winner with a terrible attitude.

He just doesn’t realise what he has lost and won’t until he is in his forty’s.

Honestly mate his decision making the lot is just not at the level we require. He had a few good games. Looked the part till he got his contract then fucked it. Guys an idiot. Tbh

I don’t disagree with a single thing you say there, I wasn’t only replying to you calling him rotten as he isn’t. He has mental issues or at least seems to by the way he looks after himself .
