ABERDEEN’S potential new stadium would put them on par with BARCELONA, claimed a city business chief.

The Dons are being represented at a pre-determination hearing for Aberdeen City Council over their plans for a new stadium.

The club want to leave their current home at Pittodrie and move to the Kingsford site just outside the city.

However, the plans have been met with opposition from residents in the local communities of Westhill and Kingswells.

While some business leaders have also voiced their disapproval.

But Russell Borthwick, chief executive of Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce, is fully in favou

Speaking at today’s hearing, he even claimed the new stadium would put Aberdeen “on par with teams such as Barcelona”.

Mr Borthwick added that it was important to show potential investors in the region that the city was open for business

He said: “The reality is usually better than the prospect.

“We’re supportive of Aberdeen’s ambition to be one of the top 100 teams in Europe.

“Staying at Pittodrie will make that impossible.

“Would a city really choose to reject £50m of private investment?

“To say no will create confusion, slow the momentum we have and simply reinforce the view of our potential investor in Leeds that Aberdeen is not open for business.”

He might have plenty cash but no one decent and with any sense will go near Aberdeen. The city is losing its oil industry fast and will soon be a soulless grey and frozen shiteheap in the middle of nowhere (what do you mean it already is?) :aberdeen:
