More good news (not really) - Pena

Carlos Pena could be back at Rangers as early as next week after Cruz Azul's president revealed they will have a board meeting about his future.

The Mexican misfit was signed again by former Ibrox boss Pedro Caixinha in January on loan until the end of the year.

However, his return to the Liga MX club has been an unmitigated disaster. He's barely played after an ankle injury and was booed by his own fans when he did feature because of lacklustre performances.

This week, he reached a new low when he was caught buying a six-pack of beer while wearing his Cruz Azul gear after a training session next to the club's La Noria compelx in Mexico City.

That caused Caixinha to warn him he would consider ripping up his loan contract and order him to return to Glasgow.

And a former team Mauro Boselli even went so far as to advise Pena to seek help for his 'issues' after the incident.

Now Cruz Azul president, Guillermo Alvarez, has revealed the player's future will be discussed at the start of next week.

He said: "Carlos Pena's future at this club will be decided in the coming days.

"We will look at all options concerning the player, including his contract situation."

Rangers reportedly paid £2million for Pena in the summer and are still paying a sizeable chunk of his £26,000-a-week wages.

Also, Pena still has two years of his contract left at Ibrox, with Cruz Azul now looking extremely unlikely to take up his purchase option on the 28-year-old.

I assume that is from one of our illustrious very pro-Rangers newspapers such as the DR or Sun?

That can't be right.

According to this forum he's on upwards of 35k a week.

Strange they can rip up the loan contract and make him return to the parent club but we've had Dalcio here all season. If they rip it up they can pay the fee / wages in full thanks.

Dalcio provides patter but, Pena is a fat alky.

I’m going to take a different slant on this. He has clearly got problems

If he comes back then We should do whatever benefits us as a club first and foremost - we can’t just sack him for being shite

We should have him on a program that seeks to address his psychological problems and physical fitness. We should be hard line on this and have it outlined legally.  We have a duty to look after his welfare. If he fails to comply then we will have an out regarding his contract.  If it is successful we may have a player, after all at one time he was highly regarded in Mexico and was revered at L’eon
