Would be interesting to have heard the sales pitch being given to Gerrard.  Must have some stellar job trying to set his mind at rest about the prospect of taking the job.   Its hardly a smooth settled place he'd be jumping into:

  • Disastrous OF results
  • Disastrous league results and performances
  • Woeful cup campaigns
  • Urgent need to achieve a vast improvement from the first team squad next season
  • A squad that is too big and not trying any more and not really good enough anyway and utterly demotivated.
  • 2 senior players suspended - one at least on his way out
  • Ultra high Supporter expectations sat alongside increasing anger at managers coming and going in quick order but not enough improvement in the first team or in the results.
  • a bit of a clearout of players needing to be done and need to decide on who stays / who goes in very quick time.
  • yet another churn of backroom staff as Gerrard would presumably want some of his own like-minded people installed
  • A recent track record of absolutely burning through managers
  • A Support that is in urgent need of seeing a properly competitive Rangers team on the pitch and challenging properly for the title and cups.  Patience is running out.
  • 2 Directors jumping ship this week
  • A Chairman still in trouble with The Takeover Panel and the courts.
  • No new investment announced.
  • Club not able to balance books and relying on soft loans from Directors
  • Where, Gerrard or his agent must be wondering, does Rangers get the money to create a decent transfer fund for Gerrard to create a better squad?
  • Is King engaged on bringing about his exit from Rangers with Gerrard then at risk of finding new bosses at Rangers who may not want to instal their own manager - especially if a changeover of board power happened during the season and if an improvement in results was not being seen by the new bosses.    How, for instance, would King have sold it to Gerrard that King and those directors who remain will be there long enough for Gerrard to get a fair run at doing a good job at Rangers?

Must be one stellar sales pitch that King or whoever else at Rangers is doing on spearheading the Gerrard recruitment.   And if he comes to Rangers, Gerrard must surely have had some powerful assurances about the backing he'd be getting.........and the money he'd be getting to spend on revamping the squad.   I sure would like to have heard that sales pitch and the assurances that go with it.

No doubt the Press will be asking him about what convinced him to take the job with all the turmoil going on.   Be interesting to hear is answer.

Good to see some positivity in here for once.

Nope.   I'm just fed up with chaos at Rangers and would like to think that Gerrard has a good understanding of what he'd be taking on because it is one hell of a challenge.

If it is to be Gerrard then I don't think there is any real option but to get right behind him and encourage him to do a great job.    That's despite the chaos he inherits in the first team squad and the chaos he will have to live with that comes out of the boardroom with the regularity of rain falling on the west coast of Scotland.

You should change your name to Depression Bear.

Yes.   And that is of course the biggest and most powerful plus point.     But I suspect he'd be a bit more hard headed about what he might be getting into.  His agent is certainly bound to be.
