EU Signings after Brexit

Recommended Posts

It will be interesting to see how the transfer market in Scotland is impacted when we leave the EU.

Right now we have freedom of movement, so we can sign guys from Europe without the need for work permits.

Right now we are linked with Katic a young Croatian defender who has one cap in a friendly.

Usually work permits are granted on various criteria, including caps a minimum number of caps in the last few years for their national team. If they dont have this relevant number of caps, then an appeal has to be made before the signing can be granted.

Will this limit our market to being even more based on UK players, or do we think that the work permits will be fairly easy to get through on appeal?

Don't worry, Brexit won't happen.

Can you see the home office knocking back applications for players galore making thousands every week with us hundreds of thousands a month in England at a time when they all say we will be taking a financial hit to the economy? I don’t

They’ll introduce an exception for pro-athletes or for those earning a certain amount, probably.

Is it not the case even now that UK teams struggle with work permits for players from South America and the likes though?

Portugal in particular seem to be able to get hold of the young Brazilian players due to their unique immigration rules ahead of teams from other countries.

It probably wont be an issue for teams from the EPL as these players will probably be noted as some of the best prospects in youth football. If the law is applied equally to EPL and Scotland however, we will probably be in a far less convincing position to say that the players we are shopping for are a 'significant talent'.

If they lower the bar for the SPFL then I can see it being okay, if its regulated equally with the EPL as the yard stick, we may be fucked though.

Think that was more political as he's Russian, hence why he then got Israeli citizenship.

Brexit means Brexit

That's what you've been led to believe. It's not really possible for countless reasons.

Just like all things Brexit, no one has any idea sadly. FM 18 ran about 5 different scenarios where sometimes it stays the same and other times it’s a disaster.
