Popular Post Ozblue 4,331
For me, it's immaterial whether we paid out his contract or not, because although I think he should have paid us, at least he is off the wage bill. Over the years we have paid "players" an absolute fortune for zero return, such as Prodan, that cunt Webster, Barton, O'Halloran, Herrera, Pena, and a few others, but Alves would have to be the biggest disappointment of them all as regards to what we thought we would get from him, both on and off the park. Here was a guy with bags of top class experience, almost 100 caps for the European champions and a CV that suggested we had a player who would absolutely stroll Scottish football, yet all we got was a handful of games from him (that weren't that fucking flash anyway) and was posted missing when it mattered. A fucking charlatan of the highest order. big blue Fin, 35 Yard Dangerman, HG5 and 2 others

Jimfanciesthedude 24,358
If king and co reached an agreement with him it probably has the stipulation that if he wants back to the club he can for a 2 year rolling contract at whatever wage he's been offered elsewhere HG5

Reformation Bear 6,453
Seems to me Steven Gerrard has been bold enough to say he does not need yesterday's big name player because what he wants from his players is the hunger, willingness to work for him and for Rangers, and the pace and power of youth with upcoming talent. Unfortunately Alves was never a Rangers, Rangers, Rangers and only Rangers player whereas SG seems to me to want exactly that mentality and keenness to win. If the players don't have the right mindset and hunger for success then no matter their name and reputation its not bigger than Rangers, and its not better than Gerrard's own...…….so out they go. He probably gets same salary with new club but can sign say a 2 year deal instead of only having 1 year to go with us. We get him off the wage bill, new club saves on transfer fee and Alves gets a longer contract. That suits all parties.

I just don’t want us paying him a fortune to move on and get a good deal elsewhere - not just Alves in general I mean it really gets to me

You might be right tbh the term agreement could mean anything from Alves agreeing to walk away for free to us agreeing to pay 75% of his wage to save 25% .. who knows - it’s just in general the amount of talent we sign and reach agreements with is staggering West_Side and JCDBigBear

WATP-FOREVER 5,231
There's probably worse, but certainly (one of) the most useless player & character that we've signed up. As part of the fuck off negotiations, we should reserve the right to remove Rangers from his cv and alves from our record books.
siddiqi_drinker 14,635
Some amount of cash wasted on Alves, Cardoso, Herrera and Pena plus the garbage like Halliday, Hodson, Forrester and Holt who we seem unable to shift although the latter is at least off the books. Wasteful in the extreme.
