Ozil quits Germany with ranty tweets

shockingly badly timed, unwanted distraction for the  German team just before the world cup in Russia and has engendered no real support from his team mates, Gundogan calling Erdogan "my president" has people asking where their loyalties lie. Both then have a shocker of a cup  - especially Ozil -who looks completely uninterested. He then takes a lot of criticism - some of it obviously racist.

But he then played the race card and only the race card and criticises almost everybody who hasn't came out and publically supported him. Now, he may well feel this is only a racist issue and nothing more, that he is completely blameless for everything and it's all someone else fault, and there is no doubt some of the criticism of him is racist - but I can't help feeling that what we have is also an overindulged muti millionaire who thinks he can do what he wants and is above any form of criticism and looks for any excuse to make up for his own failings. The football world is full of them.

He's definetly been targeted because of his race, I don't think anyone can deny that.

However his general demeanour and attitude mean he'll always be a target regardless of where he comes from. He doesn't do anywhere near enough to justify his position in the Arsenal or Germany teams.

This may be simplifying things too much, but things like this also show how the qualification for playing for countries has become a mockery. He's just posted pages and pages basically saying how proud he is to be Turkish yet he chose to play for Germany.

He's a horrible cunt. Stands there with a dictator calling him "my president" and expects everyone in Germany to be right behind him.

If he's so Turkish, he should hahe played for Turkey. Or better still, moved back there, when he was of an age to.

These guys are always German, British, French, etc when their parents come here soaking up all the benefits that come with being Western European. Turkey is a putrid place.

Being born in a country should be one of two requirements of qualifying to play for a country, which he meets

Fair enough, but it's pretty hypocritical of him to make a big deal about not being respected by Germans when he's actively shown his loyalties lie with another country.

Germany's racism problem was mostly centered is the old east germany at its worst the arson attack on a refugee hostel in Lubeck in 94, lots of resentment back then that immigrants in western Germany had better standards of living than Germans in the east. this is probably more to do with Ozil being shit

...he's German. Born & raised. Grew up in Gelsenkirchen. Started his career at Schalke 04. His first language is German. Why wouldn't he play for Germany?

It was Gundogan who posted the caption 'my president' alongside the photo. Lothar Matthaus stood for photos with Vladimir Putin - where's the condemnation? It's all double standards bullshit.

Your 2nd last sentence is nonsense. You can feel British, French, German but also have respect for your ethnic roots. That doesn't make you feel more than the other. It's a nod in the direction of your heritage.

Ozil has taken plenty of photos with German politicians including Merkel over the past 10 years.
