Hearts Sanction

Recommended Posts

Well that is a joke is it not?

At a disciplinary hearing today (Monday 23 July) a sub-committee of the SPFL Board charged Heart of Midlothian Football Club with playing an ineligible player (Andrew Irving) in their Betfred Cup group stage match against Cove Rangers FC on 18 July 2018.

Heart of Midlothian admitted breaching SPFL Rules and were deducted two points from their Betfred Cup first-round group stage tally.

The Club were also fined £10,000 (of which £8,000 was suspended until the end of season 2019/20).

WTF? That’ll put the brakes on them playing another ineligible player.

why was it not a 3 pt deduction instead of 2

They got 2 points for drawing and winning on pens so thats probably why

Edit.. that was the other game. No idea why only 2 points. Probably because it was a genuine admin error though.

Admin error is a poor excuse. Always used, never proved otherwise.

Do you think Hearts put a guy on the bench who they forgot to re-register for this season to give them an advantage to beat Cove Rangers all the while risking being disqualified from the cup for it. I really hope you do tbh.

Not the point, they broke the rules.

If it were us that done it, do you honestly think we would have gotten off so lightly?

But, Cove Rangers should have been awarded a 3-0 win.

You made the point that it was suspicious.

Yes as I'm not a paranoid conspiracy theorist.

Stranraer fielded an inelible player in the same cup 2 years ago, won and the result stood with a fine. No one was up in arms then. Cove Rangers done the same last year and got a fine 1/5th the size Hearts got. No one is up in arms about that either.
