It's their worst start to a league campaign in decades yet they've beat us, are 4 points above us in the league, and have reached the League Cup final.  We can't let them stroll their way to another treble there has to come a challenge at some point.

Honestly from seeing there last few results I think barring more injuries Rogers will manage another double or treble without too much issue there players are far better especially in the midfield and strikers are comparable.

Didn't Motherwell make two finals last season and fail to even make the top six in the league?

Done better than we did, I’d rather be getting to finals than finishing runner up in the league. Mind you that’s motherwell with a tiny fraction of the budget we have.

Pretty embarrassing really, mind you clutching to Motherwell as some sort of example shows how dire the situation really is

So there's absolutely no correlation between making finals (and losing) and the league position? Christ, despite making two finals Motherwell didn't even qualify for Europe through it so I'll take coming second in the league over simply getting to a final.

Not sure where anyone has cited Motherwell as some sort of 'example' though other than showing that getting to a final means absolutely fuck all if you don't actually win in it.

Gerrard is learning.

He is learning that Rangers are everyone’s cup final.

He is learning that having players with ability is not enough in Scotland you need players with balls.

However he also seems to be getting more conservative as he learns. That’s not good. Earlier in the season we were being much braver on the ball. We were playing with a higher tempo. Zipping the ball about and making space and pulling the opposition about.

Now, either we are losing confidence in that approach and becoming more cautious in the build up or teams have just learned to stick to their structure and let us play our pretty patterns safe in the knowledge that we don’t have the quality to create something special. Maybe both.

Point is we were experimenting more earlier on. Now we seem to be in a warburton-esque: “do plan A better” mindset.

Gerrard needs to start working on different tactical approaches and deploying them according to the opposition and being able to change them mid game as needed.

Think the point is that if you look at Rangers and celtic teams through the years rather than motherwell then the cups are usually a good incator to how strong a team is. More often than not if us or them wins the league then one of the other trophies is usually involved if not both.
