Lack of movement

This is the root of all our creativity problems imo. We’re so static in the final third, whenever we get the ball it’s played sideways because there’s no one making a run or getting into space, just stood there like bloody statues. When we play the pass every time the player passing just stands there after watching the game, it really is basics to pass and move stuff you get taught as a school kid so why are we not doing it? With a man advantage against a team bottom of the league we should have been passing around them and opening them up with ease, instead the last two game we’ve made it so easy for the opposition. Something Gerrard and his coaches need to get working on because it’s not fucking difficult, as I said it’s schoolboy stuff and unless we start doing something to unlock defences we’re going to have many more games like today.

Spot on. Our midfield all stand still to receive a ball and then pass it side to side until a punt or a ball to a winger who, by than, has two men in him. It’s been happening all season.

This is it. Good teams play in triangles. We just get pushed out wide and whip in a ball to one centre forward against two or three defenders.

The scenario that played out in the last two games of it just being attack v defence is something they do nearly everyday in training surely?

Lack of movement yes but lack of players with the character, mentality and ability to go and win a game has killed us since we came back into the top flight.

Is it lack of movement or lack of tempo when playing out from the back. At times today it was the same as midweek four or five passes around the defence and midfield then by the time it goes forward there is no space to move.

We all said this today, trot forward 5 yards ,check then play it square, meanwhile they’ve set up with every man behind the ball.

Said a few weeks ago, give and go. It’s as simple as that, we were easy to defend against today and Wednesday.

Agreed it really is simple but for some reason we just don’t do it. Question is is it a lack of coaching on the training ground, or are the players just too lazy or not intelligent enough to do it?

You’re right but what compounds is it we have an array of central midfielders who only want to pass sideways or backwards. If you don’t have the capability to be able to look forward and play forward quickly they shouldn’t be playing for us.

At one point today Ryan Jack tried to run with the ball and it was horrible to watch, ended up running into a player standing on his boot and giving a foul away.

Either a lack of confidence or failure to take responsibility.

Agreed but I don’t think it’s the players fault so much, they are what they are and have their own styles. It’s the managers fault for not signing or playing more attack minded midfielders, starting games with 2 or sometimes even 3 defensive players in midfield is ridiculous. The holding midfielder is an important role, every top team has one but we only need one.

And our midfield tend to stand facing our own goal to get the ball. None of them are in a forward facing standing position, and that takes any momentum out of the play. Basic coaching stuff.

No one brave enough to take the ball and push forward play one two's pass and move as you say. The best of it is you can see early on that this is going to be a struggle not long into the games. Today I predicted it would end up a draw as we had no creativity whatsoever in the final third. And played with a slow tempo out from the back playing it wide then crossing into the keepers arms fucking rediculous tactics. Show a bit off bottle and attack teams with the ball on the deck with a high tempo and look as if you want to win the game it's the Rangers way  well used to be. But with a lot of these players im not so sure.once again I feel fucking embarrassed by our teams performance and something has to change.

Could look at this thread another way the final 3rd could be thinking what’s the point in wasting my energy making constant runs when the centre midfielders mostly jack has no intention of trying to find them , the state of him when the square pass to tav or the left back at the time isn’t on is embarrassing

Ive a different approach to this & I might be way off....I reckon Stevie is tinkering/poker face with tactics & line ups ...his first immeadiate objective is to proceed in Europe, then he needs to beat them at ibrox...accomplish that ....We become more attractive in the window & hopefully DK chucks some ££ his way

We charge out of defence  looking full of purpose,  get a few yards inside their half then slam the brakes on with 10 yard sideways passes aplenty going nowhere ending up losing the ball, this happened loads yesterday, it should have been spotted from the bench and adjusted accordingly.

Said it before the game, Jack needs dropped. He takes the ball from the centre back 2 yards away and plays a nothing pass to the full back. The centre backs can do that themselves, it just clutters the back line, slows play down and is a waste of a midfielder. He does a job in possession that doesn't need doing.
