BlueSuedeSambas 53,775
Defoe has something to offer but there’s no way we should be signing Davis on a permanent contract. Malvern, Bears r us and Algeran
BlueKnight87 17,282
We'll need Defoe with morelos suspended for 4 games. Davis has been a bust. He shouldn't be offered a permanent contract mark1963 and Bears r us
jbm26896 995
Davis played well for NI recently. He should be able to do a job for us.
McEwan's Lager 30,522
Defoe has done enough to show that he is an asset. Why we are interested in Davis I have no idea. Bears r us
Bristol loyal 6,248
Don’t think we can terminate a loan outside of the transfer window? But would terminate Defoe in the summer and let Davis go. They add nothing and will be taking up a huge amount of wages that could be better spent. BlueAvenger

trueblueal 2,117
I can't see any logic in offering Davis a contract. He's here when we have a half fit Arfield and a half fit Jack and he doesn't get in the team. McCrorie plays yesterday, Kamara is the 1st midfield sub. Davis must be 5-6th choice just now and that's before we sign anyone in the summer. I can only think the strange situation when he signed (18 month permanent deal suddenly becoming a 6 months loan) means we committed to keeping him next year at the outset and don't want to renege on that. Basically pinning our hopes on us finding a ready made striker who can walk straight into our team, not going to be easy. Defoe will look like a good option and we buy somebody younger who we bed in slowly. gazza27

Number5 2,121
You haven't thought about this one much? Davis can go, if that's even an option? Doubt Southampton are going say yeah fuck it well cover his wages for a few months while he trains with the under 18s. Defoe is in the same boat but actually offers something and with Morelos out, even if sending him back was an option, you couldn't think of a worse time to do it! gj923 1,457
Neither should have been signed. Davis because his legs are gone and we don’t seemed to have learned the lesson that 30 plus midfield players do not stroll this league. Defoe because his style of game does not suit our play for the whole 90 minutes. Heaven forbid we give youth a chance. Hardie could have been recalled. Given we're in talks with Davis over a permanent deal then I'd say there's absolutely no chance of ending his deal early only to sign him permanently in 12 weeks. Surely you jest about a permanent deal for Davis. Bears r us
Brian Fantana 28,894
Davis is a holding player and that doesn’t fit in with our current style - our midfield are currently set up for attacking, that might change. Defoe hasn’t had a decent run of games to show what he can do. He’s a quality player, we just can’t get the most out of him.

Because to me Kamara, Jack & McCrorie are all more defensively minded midfielders too and that’s been one of our biggest problems all season. For me, since warburton came in and since he left we’ve had an attacking midfield set up. If they are defensive then they are failing massively at that task. SIRB_72 4,000
Getting rid of Defoe, in general, would be crazy. As mentioned his goal return for the amount of minutes he's played has been really good. We should be asking questions of the manager why he continues to misuse him and play him as a single striker which he's never been good at. Get someone in who can play beside him and he'll batter goals in for us. With the games Kent and Morelos are out for the manager should consider trying a 3-5-2 and attempt to strike up some kind of partnership with him and Lafferty. Win you the ball but don't offer a lot going foward. We need 2 midfielders that can contribute in the final 3rd. Playmaker to open teams up and attacking midfielder that can drive at opposition and offer a goal threat. Kill for a midfielder that can shoot from outside the box.
