A Rangers Reserve side are to travel to face Corby Town on Wednesday, May 8 to celebrate the club’s 70th anniversary.

Currently plying their trade in the Southern League Division One Central (step eight in the English pyramid), they sit third in the league table; five points off top spot but well within the promotion play-off places.

The town of Corby is often referred to as “little Scotland” with many Scots having migrated to the town in the 1930s to work in the steelworks.

Indeed, even today, the town still has Scottish roots, with almost 13 per-cent of the town’s population being born in Scotland according to the most recent census.
Gers last sent a team to Corby back in November 2011 to mark the opening of their current Steel Park stadium.

Led by Ian Durrant that evening, Gers ran out 6-0 winners thanks to goals from Rhys McCabe, Juan Ortiz, Kane Hemmings, John Fleck and a late Salim Kerkar double.
Corby are currently managed by Steven Kinniburgh, a former Academy player at Rangers, and he commented: “Corby Town are delighted to have Rangers coming down to play in our 70th Anniversary game at Steel Park.

“We hope to attract a big crowd for the game to hopefully celebrate a successful season for both teams come May. On a personal note, I would like to thank Craig Mullholland for helping organise the game.”

Rangers Head of Academy Craig Mulholland said: “We are delighted to be able to send a team down to celebrate the 70thanniversary of Corby Town.

"It was a match we were very keen to support for two reasons, firstly we know there is a huge Rangers fan settlement in Corby and it gives the supporters who maybe don’t get to Ibrox as often as they would like, the opportunity to see some of emerging talent on their doorstep.

"The second reason was to support our former Academy player Steven Kinniburgh, who is still in regular contact with us here at Rangers, and is currently in the early stages of what will hopefully lead to a long and successful management career.

"We very much look forward to the match in what I am sure will be a great occasion for Corby Town with a big crowd to celebrate their anniversary.”

The match will kick off at 7.30pm, with entry costing £10 for adults, £6 for concessions and £2 for Juveniles.

Yanis Bensaber for us. Anyone heard of him?

Searched his name and looks like a French youth International for Lille if it's the same one.
