New Champions League proposals

Recommended Posts

celtic could be guaranteed a Champions League Group Stage place every year under new proposals that would grant wild card entries for clubs with 'great historical importance to football.'

The current format for Europe's top club competition is set to change and a variety of new formats have been proposed.

The top four teams will qualify for the knock-out phase, the bottom club would be 'relegated' and the remainder going into the Europa League. Matches could also be played on some weekends.

But crucially, the proposal includes granting wild cards to clubs of historical importance in European football.

That would mean celtic - the first British club to win the European Cup in 1967 - would be granted a spot in the new format.

Assume Nottingham Forest will be ahead of them in the pecking order.

Aston Villa as well I presume?

What about Steaua Bucharest? Do FCSB get the place or does the Steaua Bucharest that currently plays in the fourth or fifth tier get it?

Madness.

Sellic have done absolutely fuck all, nothing, nada, zilch, in that competition since 1974. Allowing them automatic access based on something they did 52 years ago is just jaw-droppingly absurd for anything calling itself a sporting competition.

What'd they do in 1974? Help Bayern Munich win it?

They got to the semis. Between 67 and 74 they had a win, a final and a semi.

Been utterly dug shit since.

There’s no depths they won’t plumb if it will benefit their putrid club, Liewell got his feet under the UEFA table for one reason only.

Added to that they must be the only club in history who have delegates from another country also looking after their interests.

Fucking sleekit weasels.

Its Ac Milan who are pushing this, for the simple reason that they are now shit. And unfortunately they probably have a fair bit of clout. If this happens then it truly is simply a members only club by invite only.

Well make it multiple winners 3+ or 3 in a row.

It's aimed at Milan, Inter, Man U, Dortmund, Chelsea and so forth. Something similar was discussed a few years back when Chelsea finished 8th or thereabouts (and a few other biggies languished) at a time when Chelsea were one of the biggest guns. UEFA want to make sure the big money spinners are there every year, and that aint the mhanks. It's not aimed at sellic, however the press here are looking to spin it on their behalf. You can be sure Lawwell is trying to put his case forward, though. Which worries me, because he's a shrewd operator and propagandist. Our leadership need to keep tabs on this.

He is a sneaky twat for sure, the only thing is if they let them in for winning it once then surely every past winner should get in?You can bet It would open a real can of worms  and you could end up with 16 groups if every club fights their corner. The whole concept is a fuckin disgrace, no one can even attempt to argue now that the competition is about anything other than money anymore which would make it even sweeter if Ajax won it this year and stuck it up UEFA.

Our leadership will keep tabs on it and that'll be all they do

Our clubs an embarrassment when it comes to dealing with literally everything off the pitch

Something else with historical importance should see the bastards in front of the authorities, never mind fuckin shoehorning them into a cash cow.

I wonder if the damage caused to their brand (by repeated chanting about cellic covering up child abuse) is behind slanty eyes recent complaints in the media?

Heres an idea. All past winners have a knock out competition starting in july which will gain,  for arguments sake, 8 places in the league format. Make it so they cant qualify from their national league but only by knocking each other out before the group stages. That way  Ac Milan and Man utd can get in even if the have a pish domestic season. Sounds good to me. Bet lawlell would love that.

I hope every club in the country gets behind it and exposes the rodents for who they are, been far too long for justice to have been done. Bloody hell how many decades since Alan Brazil told the world? Only Scotland wasn't listening.

Those clubs will do anything to ensure the money plugs their gaping financial hole when they don't win / finish high enough in the league to get them in to the competition. The mhanks will be preparing themselves for that eventuality when we win the league. It's only a matter of time and we will be the only team that beats them to it, albeit whenever that may be.
