Can’t not take it though. Sometimes only get one chance at these type of offers.

If it goes badly though his reputation could be in tatters and his managerial career over before it’s started, he’s managing at a decent level just now and doing well be a massive risk to take on.

That’s actually really good.

Big(ish) English club after the gaffer means he and we are being recognised again, and he’s said no underlining his commitment to us.

Was thinking the same thing mate.

Derby is an attractive club, high end Championship club with a good history, the fact that Gerrard has said he doesn't want to speak to them pleases me.

That’s probably the only reason he is getting it tbh.

He’s going to have to work with what’s there and dip into the youth team to supplement the team and on paper you could say who better to motivate a group of young players than a club legend (who’s actually shown himself to be a decent manager albeit at a lower level).

It’s been a fairly common thing in Europe for ages now but it’s only now that the “top”, some might say desperate, English clubs seem to be trying this lets try and ex player who’s a legend as manager thing out.

He'll also bring Jody Morris as his assistant.  He worked as a youth coach at Chelsea for years and will already have a clear understanding of the youth players ready to step up.

Think in football most will always believe in themselves to step up and get the job done. Don’t think you can have the mentality that it could go wrong.

Gerrard isn't daft.

He gets that Rangers is an institution, I assume he'll also want to win something here before contemplating leaving. Unless Liverpool come in for him before that (which is highly unlikely if he hasn't won something by that point).

Cech is going back as the sporting director too isn’t he?

EDIT: quoted the wrong pot here. @BlueKnight87 meant to quote you.

They are not biggish at all. Like in any sense of the word.

But I agree about commitment, it’s good it looks like it’s been instantly rejected instead of this back and fro stuff when Warburton was manager

Aye think he’ll take the job big gamble from him and Chelsea though, can’t see them making top 4 next year

Doesnae bear thinking about actually.

I hope we are not looking for a new Manager in the next 3 years.

The thought of being linked to all the usual suspects agains makes me want to greet

Agreed, but when Gerrard moves on hopefully it’ll be because he has done a good job and we will be a much more attractive proposition to better managers than we were linked with before.

Although there's some visible progress, he's won nothing yet.

everything is unraveling in the east end right now, the opportunity for 55 is there for Stevie's taking which, dare I say would make him a club legend? No way he leaves to join the Championship, a league that can't predict promotion.

Struggle for Chelsea next year with transfer ban and no Hazard, be a big risk for Lampard to take that on

If Lampard makes a good go of the Chelsea gig, EPL eyes will be fluttered at Gerrard, as a young manager cut from the same cloth.

Surely that would mean Rangers had allowed them.permission to speak to him?

We might have just told him of their interest and asked Gerrard if he wanted to and he said no or something like that
