PC Gaming Build

The stock coolers that come with CPUs are more than adequate.  When you first start learning about PCs people constantly go on about heat and making sure everything is cool but modern components are very energy efficient.

This. I like the AIO coolers for purely cosmetic reasons but the Wraith cooler I got with the 2700x is absolutely fine.

Much does it  cost to build something like that if u dont mind me asking ?

Spent around £1k mate. I've seen some similar spec pre-build going for a fair bit above that. Although I wasn't really doing it to save money, I've just always wanted to build my own from scratch.

Thread rivival!.

Spent most of last night pulling my parts out of a grey Phanteks P400s (for my boy) into its bigger brotherP600s in white.

Popped a Ryzen 3600 in there in place of a Ryzen 1700. Gone from 8 core to 6 core but it spanks the Ryzen 1 in everything.

@DeanMK @mitre_mouldmaster

I have been looking at building a new machine to get back into fps gaming on the pc.

The machine would be mainy for gaming, but I would maybe like to learn/dapple with video/photo editing, and I am currently doing digital forensics stuff so am using VMs. I may be able to use my laptop for some of it and leave desktop solely for gaming (FPS mainly), or maybe not, I am not sure.

What I currently have

Monitor - Samsung CJ791 34" 100Hz 3440x1440

Headset - A50s

Keyboard + Mouse - K520 + M310

XPS 13 2 in 1 (i7-1065G7, 32GB 3733 LPDDR4, 1TB PCIe NVMe, IRUS plus Graphics, 13.4" 16:10 UHD+ WLED touch display 3840 x 2400)

Out going desktop

I5 2500k

MSI P67A-GD53 (B3)

Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7850 OC Windforce 2X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Car

4 x 8GB Trident X PC3-19200 2400MHz

EVGA Supernova 750 B2 SM 80+ bronze (purchased july 2015)

Be Quiet Dark Rock advanced

Antec 300 Three Hundred two case

Can anything be salvaged from this, not bothered about rgb or fancy case, it will be under a desk with the left side against desk side.

Looking at spending £1k, plus whatever i get for the above individually on ebay, have all the boxes, but not even sure I will get anything.

Going off of LTT cheap v expensive gaming video, I was looking at the gentleman.

AMD Ryzen 5 2600 (guessing it would now make sense to go for the 3600 - £183)

Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER 8 GB WINDFORCE OC 3X Video Card - £499 (someone suggested swapping this for Gigabyte Radeon RX 5700 XT 8 GB GAMING OC Video Card)

Corsair H55 57 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler - £55 (suggested swapping for  Arctic Freezer 34 esports duo)

Team T-FORCE VULCAN Z 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory - £78 (Should this be upped to 32?)

Asus ROG strix B450-F - £115 (Suggested swapping to MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX. )

Kingston A1000 m.2 NVME 480GB £65

Corsair CXM 750W 80+ Bronze - £81 ( Can i use my current PSU, 650W not on pcpartpicker)

Fractal Design Focus G - £51 inc shipping (any slim chance I could use my current case)

Total = £1125 inc shipping

Keyboard and mouse are another discussion (not to be included in £1k budget).

Is it better to buy parts as i get the money, or buy it all at once as it may be cheaper as it will be later. Should i wait till black friday/december sales, or would it be tiny saving compared to today.

How much more would it be to get it to the next level?

Cheers

jim

You don't need the liquid cooler unless you're overclocking the CPU for a start. 16 gig is plenty of RAM if its just gaming and standard PC usage. You haven't listed what HDD/SSD you might have in the old build but assuming the drive is still in good health it will be worth keeping.

As for black friday, its just a gimmick mate. Plenty of better deals go on throughout the year, especially for PC parts.

Shame. RGB adds 20 or 30 FPS to all your games.

Symptoms? Is it posting?

Nah, when I press power all the fans spin, disk drive opens etc etc but I'm getting no monitor output or usb output. Low powered usb devices work but mouse and keyboard don't.

I've bought a new mobo, new psu and they didn't work. So sent them back. Tried an old gfx card again nothing. So currently have new ram sitting waiting for the cpu.

The system is 6yrs old, so I'd be lying in saying I haven't been looking at new systems.

Hmm weird, the CPU wouldn't or shouldn't affect devices powering up tbh. If you hadn't said you tried a new PSU and Mobo I would have said it sounds like either of those is the problem.

So what you're saying is...buy a new PC :craphead:

I am in the market for a gaming PC bt the prices are pretty steep

I need something with at least these specs

 Intel Core i5-3470, 3.20GHz or AMD FX-6300, 3.5Ghz

6 GB RAM

nVIDIA GeForce GTX 660, 2 GB or AMD Radeon HD 7870, 2 GB

I know next to fuck all about computers  but for you guys who have built them before, roughly how much would it cost to build a PC to those specs?

I already have a tower my nephew used to use, I am sure some stuff like fans and some RAM can be salvaged from that to bring the cost down.

Are you building it or after a pre build?

You could use the original ram if it's fairly new.

Also what's your budget?

You could get something like this:

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/4mkpGc

I've been out of the loop for pc parts for awhile. So someone might be able to come up with a better one. I've not added storage as you could reuse your old ones.

Could also get a cheaper case just depends on what looks you like, I just like the nxzt cases
