They're a well known bunch of fenian sympathisers, I said previously before the game they have a republican element and have a weird love in with the papes.

Chester v Wrexham has a level of hatred and thats due to chester being loyalists and these cunts a shower of fenians.

Fuck Wrexham

Hail Hail Wrecsam!

Hail Hail Cae ras!

I’ve followed Wrexham and celtic for a long time, so of course both sides most famous and successful teams are etched in my mind, the goals replayed, the attacking football, the cups, the legends.

The Greatest.

I was too young to appreciate the great 77/78 side, but thanks to the dvd, fellow fans anecdotes and my Dads constant stories of how talented they were, the memories are very real. That side was the root where my education started…i can see Bobby Shinton now, stroking the ball with the inside of his foot, dropping the shoulder, giving it and going, stooping for a diving header and then, standing tall, a grin from ear to ear, arms aloft to accept the adulation of the fans.

Whenever i talk to older fans, they always say ‘they would have given anyone a game’…and its true, just look at the history books, we’ve always had a reputation as giant killers, but to be beating the Southamptons, Tottenham’s, Newcastles of this world and more than equalling them on the park is awe inspiring.

The Lisbon Lions

As a young lad with a vivid imagination, the legend of the Lisbon Lions, that celtic team that was the first from Britain to win the European Cup fascinated me. They were all from within 30 miles of Glasgow and played (like our boys, rest in peace John Neal) attacking Football, with the players given licence to ‘have a go’…Wee Jinky Johnstone mercurial down the wing, the famous green and white hoops, big Jock Stein who Bill Shankly told after their victory in Portugal against Inter Milan ‘You’re immortal now John’.

Bob Clarke’s son Toby tells me that Jock Stein actually phoned his Dad up to give a reference for Bobby Roberts. Toby, being a young lad at the

time, thought it was his mates winding him up when he answered the call and heard the thick Glaswegian accent on the other end and promptly put the telephone down…the big man called back though and Bobby Roberts went onto to preside over a difficult tenure, but claims immortality for masterminding our famous defeat of Porto.

One Love.

Have you noticed the large celtic FC/CPD Wrecsam friendship flags on the kop in recent times? Often alongside other celtic/Wrexham anti fascist flags and LBGT flags welcoming diversity and inclusivity, everything i am proud of about our club. Until recently i was unaware of any real connection with celtic, but it would seem there are links that date back to the 1980s.

The two teams have never played one another, but there exists a genuine bond of friendship and solidarity between many fans.

London.

One fascinating link grew out of groups of our fans going down to away games in London on the mail trains from Chester in the mid 80s, arriving in London at some ungodly hour and therefore frequenting the market pubs, due to strict licensing laws, the only places you could get ale. On one occasion in particular during the seriously politicised Thatcher years, our boys got chatting to their bhoys and found they had alot of common ground. They invited us to go on a demonstration with them and from there numbers were exchanged and a bond developed.

During this period of time (not unlike today) the political landscape was very polarised.

The Thatcher Years.

Here in North East Wales communities and families were politicised during the Thatcher years, of course we have a long tradition of being a socialist/Labour stronghold, due to the heavy industry in the area at our Collieries and Steel industries. So our young fans travelling the country following their Football club were bound to find things in common with other working class folk from North of the border. Many of our communities here in Wrexham are still struggling to come to terms with and live with the aftermath of Conservative policy in that era, where whole communities existed for workplaces that were being systematically shut down with nothing to replace them. The same issues were common place all over the UK, Glasgow was no exception.

Republicans.

Then of course you have the celtic connection itself, by which i mean the nations on the ‘fringes’ of the UK as we know it and there being many sympathetic to the Republican cause of Welsh Independence, being left wing and republican naturally go hand in hand. The historical and contemporary Irish connection that celtic FC and Irish diaspora in Glasgow/Scotland has, found natural comrades among our more conscious supporters. This is the essence of a strong connection which continues to this day and is evidenced week in week out by the flags of solidarity on the kop.

Friendship.

Of course there are many who simply follow celtic as their ‘Scottish’ club, this was the case with me as a kid, Liverpool being my second club i had an affection for celtic FC because that’s where Kenny Dalglish had started. Graeme Borst who brings the big celtic FC/Wrexham AFC friendship flag started following the Town in 1997 through his friend Steve Hughes a local lad, who he met on Holiday and he’s been down to the holy ground many times since, with Steve making the trip the other way. Watch this space for a celtic FC supporters bus bearing down on Cae ras in the not too distant future.

One Love.

For me and many of my friends it’s always been a given that we follow celtic FC up the road, because we grew up knowing there was an affinity and long established connection between our fans. This has been augmented in recent times by a camaraderie with fan owned Bohs hailing from Dublin. Again, you will have seen a flag with Bohs, Wrexham and celtic on..most noticeably at Chester last season when Paul Rutherford borrowed the flag from the fans and wrapped himself in it before diving headlong into our lot at lego land. Chwaraeteg.

Any links with other fans that celebrates diversity and brings about friendships and solidarity among supporters is to be celebrated. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll play celtic FC and it will be one big party! For now though i always keep an eye out for their scores wear my celtic FC bobble hat with pride and hope to visit Paradise before i pop my clogs.

Hail Hail

Up the Town, the Bohs and the Bhoys!

PS Did you know (So Google says) only two players have played for both celtic FC and CPD Wrecsam. The Italian born keeper Rolando Ugolini made 4 appearances for the hoops between 1944/48 and played for us 83 times between 1957/60 and the striker Chris Killen played for us 12 times in 2000, scoring 3 goals, then went on to represent the bhoys 26 between 2007/10 scoring just twice.

Had a wee look on their forum, and came across this.

"As the game was all ticket and you had to obtain your match ticket from Wrexham FC Club shop how did 100 celtic 'followers' get in the away section ?
(if true) if they were allowed to purchase tickets on line then the whole exercise was a total farcical waste of time it would appear - presume the IRA chants were generated from them and not our own fans but regardless the clubs name is now a certain shitstain in the eyes of Rangers fans who were there today."

So how did they get the tickets, and more importantly, who made decision to let them in ?

To be fair, seems quite a tame forum with mostly decent football opinions (their slating their own management mostly), and there seem to be quite a few condemning the cellic contingent, and those who joined in.

Another quote "Lots of pro ira songs, quite a few celtic fans amongst the Wrexham fans. My saddest day in 51 years watching Wrexham , the result was immetirial. A right kick off in the home stand too with about 5 minutes to go. If any Rangers fans read this I’m sorry. For what it’s worth I had a go at some of them but it got quite hostile"

Firsts due to play Livi at home on same weekend so might reduce the number of travelling bears. Shame we didn't get another home draw.

Inverness will be playing that weekend too though surely?

I cannot make many games during the season due to my carer responsibilities but with the dates announced I could make this one. Suffice to say that if I can make it, I will and I know that I do not need to encourage anyone who can make the trip to do so, what a wonderful thing it would be for our Bearns if they ran out towards a chokka away end for this game.

Home to Livingston or away to ICT..

Pretty sure we’d have a good few who’d rather the day away to ICT..!

Some of the larger RSC like QSTB or the likes of Glaswegian may do something. Not in the know just a guess.
