Which is why those games against the teams we have played in the group stages is far more impressive than a statline bloated by playing diddies in qualifiers, as I said previously. Blueteeth 2,185
Our European ability has been ridiculous since he came, completely unexpected tbh.
Essandoh 21,104
I canny believe some people are trying to downplay that record because of qualifiers. He’s got us to the Group Stages of the Europa League from the FIRST qualifying round, TWICE consecutively. Then on top of that our record in the groups has been something to be very proud of. For me our outstanding stat is we haven't lost at home in Europe under Stevie G, especially the clean sheets against Porto, Legia, Feyernood, Villareal, Spartak and Ufa. Teams should be very nervous playing us, especially at Ibrox. You somehow use the “obscene number of qualifying rounds we have had to play” against Gerrard’s record. Mental. How early did those qualifiers start? How many players weren’t back with the squad for those games? How far did our rebuild continue from June to August? How experienced were the likes of Maribor, Osijek and Legia in European football compared with our players? Massive teams go out every single year in the Europa and Champions League qualifiers. It is nowhere near as easy as you’re implying. The accomplishments of Steven Gerrard and his staff far more credit than that. It’s a remarkable record. There are very few "diddies" in European football competition these days. Times have changed from when you could field a second string team and still run up a decent score. loyalfollower 1,543
While it’s impressive and the qualifiers are all banana skins we need an away win in the group stages. I think Lyon is the last group away game which we won. long overdue
Orange and Blue 1,173
If I caught Gerrard in bed with my Mrs I'd tuck him in and make him a cuppa tea. Keep up the good work Stevie and get us through the group stages.
GersInCanada 7,775
Any criticism of our European results under Gerrard is wrong on so many levels. Last season we came very close to getting out of the group stages. This season. starting again from the first qualifying round, we are a strong position to make the knock out stages. If we make the knock outs then goodness knows how far we can go.

Laudrup1984 25,100
Midtjylland beat FC Copenhagen 4-1 to go 7 clear at the top. Only lost 1 in 16 league games. Young Boys also top, Legia top as well, Porto 2nd. Feyenoord won again, starting to climb up the table. Only 4 points off 3rd.
Ayrblue1 2,042
Gerrard knows how to get us fired up for Europe, it’s getting the belief in them, which, in big games he seems to do not to bad at them. Bar a couple of player errors which can easily get stamped out, we can go far in europa
