Another poor appointment.

Decision makers at that club are a shambles.

Ridiculous appointment. Xavi was probably getting paid more in Qatar.

Would have liked Puyol , only a matter of time till Guardiola is back there........

If this guy does not rip it up that's exactly what will happen.

Apparently he's there till 2022

Never saw the contract mate, if true strange left field again from Barca but what is being quoted is he reveres Cruyff and his teaching of football. A few bad results and they will likely chop him  brutal as the guy top of the league and in champs cup.

Was watching SSN when it broke and they thought it was to. End of season, then read out what it says on barcas website and it said 2022

Seems really really strange but it does mention this guys teams play the Pep way if you like and that's why they've went for him. But seems a strange one

The issue Barca have got if they try playing the Pep/ Cruyff way is that they are an aging team. Do they have the legs for the high pressing game now? They need a lot of changes. Wouldn't be surprised if results start to decline and the end up punting this guy at the end of the season

They tried for Xavi but his team is playing a final on Friday plus one of the presedential candidates for 2021 he is very close with, the thinking is that xavi will come in if he is elected.

Supposedly tried for Koeman as well but he says no because of the euros in the summer.

Hate Barca but anyone who watched Spanish Football knows what this guy is about.

He is like a carbon copy of what a Barca manager should be and guys like Pique, Busquets, Messi all love him and have commented on how his teams are set up and play.

He will be an ideal fit.

Same was said about Gerardo Martino and he was a disaster.

Maybe in relation to some of the players and their thoughts on the manager but the circumstances at Barca now are entirely different to when Tata was hired.

Plus he had never managed in Europe before where as Setien has already won a lot of plaudits in La Liga with Las Palmas and Betis.

It might not work but from the outside it seems he ticks all the boxes!

And as for 4th choice, they offered it to Poch and Koeman until the end of the season, which is why they refused it and Xavi has an agreement with one of the presidential candidates that he will go when/if he wins in 2021.

Finished 6th in La Liga with a bang average Betis side. Got a few decent results over the big clubs as well and was linked with the Barca job during his time there too.

Only a poor appointment if you don't pay any attention to Spanish football and it's pretty mind boggling to think Xavi would have been a better option.

Valverde finished 4th in his first season with a 'bang average' Bilbao side who finished 12th the season before(10th year prior) and got three other top 7 finishes and he is still classed as a poor appointment by Barcelona!

As for the 'average' Betis side, he got to spend 35m Euros in his first season and 40m in his second year and still finished 10th! Only 6 other clubs spent more than him over 2 years and 5 are the big sides in La Liga.

Guess how much Valverde spent in 4 years at Bilbao? 22m.

Yet your preaching like Quique Setien getting 6th position with Betis was some masterclass?!

Betis didn't even want to offer him a new deal as they finished mid table last year and he's been out of work since the summer.

Maybe you don't pay enough attention to Spanish football?

He could turn out to a success, bigger surprises have occurred in football and Messi could go into god mode. But its clear he was not 1st choice and on paper his creditials are weaker than his predecessor but his style is defo more suited.

That's a cracking we rant you've went on there.

Spending 75m euros always looks a wee bit worse when you ignore the fact that they brought in 60m in the same period. Looks even worse when you want to compare his transfer record with a club who are notoriously shrewd with their money.

He's a good manager who had Betis punching above their weight at times during his spell there, playing some good football and picking up some results over the big clubs in the process. He obviously wasn't 1st choice on this occasion but it's not the first time Barcelona have shown interest him so he's obviously impressed them enough.

It's a good appointment IMO, certainly better than taking a punt on Xavi/Puyol.

Hes another yes man who will have zero say in who comes or goes from the club. He may do well and he might crash and burn , these days all managers are a gamble.

If the fans had a voice and were prepared to gamble they wouldnt be picking this guy over Xavi/Puyol.

Its only of matter of time till Pep is back so anyone brought in over the next few years is just killing time.........

If Xavi/Puyol weren't legends as players for Barcelona they wouldn't even be in the conversation to be the new manager.

Setien would be.

Pretty sure I read xavi saying he knocked the job back as it was too early so they never picked the guy over him
