Lots of work still to be done

And today is a stark reminder of this.

Our squad still isnt there imo, I think all the comments around us having 14/15 players who are good enough is true, but we need more players to be pushing these guys.

McGregor, Tav, Goldson, Katic, Helander, Edmondson, Barisic, Kamara, Davis, Jack, Arfield, Aribo, Kent, Morelos and Defoe have all shown what they can do imoT

he rest of our squad either does it in flashes or isn't at a level to push the above.

Foderingham, polster, halliday, Flanagan, Ojo, Stewart, Jones, barker, docherty and mccrorie at this moment in time don't really come close to taking a starting place from.the initial lot and that's not good enough. Some might make it long term (Jones, mccrorie etc), but for now they aren't there.

I hope I'm wrong but I believe we need a couple of quality additions to win the title imo. I don't think that's going to happen  either, so really need some of the latter group of players to kick on 2nd half of the season.

I know some of the first lot played poorly today and that's not good enough either, but realistically nobody from that 2nd lot has shown they deserve a regular place!

Stewart has performed well when given the chance.  Scored goals, created goals, linked up with the other players really well.  Someone said he’s not happy about sitting on the bench and that’s pleasing.  We want guys hungry to play and make there mark here.

I agree, I don’t think we have the money to bring in the players we need.  Stewart is versatile and can play at RW, number 10, striker.  I do think he’ll have a part to play in the months ahead and have faith in him stepping up when called upon.

Agree with all of this....... good post mate.

Stewart has come on and scored goals, docherty hasn’t been given a chance but it wouldn’t matter anyway as Gerrard has most definitely got blinkers on with certain players Flanagan has one foot (and that’s being kind) and ojo should be chased ,the legs have gone on Defoe.

Agree he's probably the one out of the 2nd lot that has looked most likely to have an impact. He's performed well when he's been used.

I think we lack 3-4 players with real quality who can push the first team,  That being said Morelos is a huge miss whenever he's out the team.

Stewart has also looked poor at times. East Fife and Motherwell prime examples. In 5 starts he's played well in 2.

A hard solid midfielder, a back up striker but most of all for me we need a proper right side attacker,  aribo and arfield are just not clinical/consistent enough imo.

Still lots and lots of football still to be played. There is no fucking way that the title ambitions died at tynecastle yesterday.

We are only just over half way through the season.

This title will go down to the wire.

Gerrard has only been in the role 18 months. IMO he has done a great job thus far.

The majority of the players were very poor yesterday, it happens in football.

You can usually scrape a win with 3 or 4 players performing poorly, but not with 8 or 9.

Clearly there were major problems with our team yesterday.

The most obvious to me was the right side.  Flanagan was absolutely atrocious and is clearly not good enough!  Aribo should never be played right wing again as he is clearly not comfortable they're.  Also Katic seems to be a fans favourite but his use of the ball yesterday when in possession was very poor.  Still think we need to get Helander back in first choice.  Also we need a long term holding midfielder as Davis performed poorly yesterday and is not enough of a leader.

In a recent presser SG stated Aribo has that free number 10 role to go and express himself.

what he didn’t say was - except when Flanagan is playing cos you need to help him out cos he’s not very good.

I said earlier, playing Flanagan changed our whole setup

I totally back the coaching team to take us forward. I just wish SG. Would take the blinkers off with a couple of players, Ojo being one. I held back from criticising Flanagan as I hadn’t seen him play in his natural position he’s now had  one and a half games there and I must admit he looks to be a defender and nothing more and not a very good one at that. Kamara takes far to long to get into a game if at all. We have  to have our game heads on from the minute we leave that dressing room, this attitude of thinking all we have to do is walk on the park has to stop.

Think people are starting to lose the plot a wee bit. celtic won the league with 27 wins last season. Weve got 17 as it is, with 17 to play. So do we realistically see us losing not winning 7 out our next 17.  We last won the league with 30 wins, drawing 3 and losing 5. We are over halfway through the season and have drawn 2 and lost 2. Still a long way to go and it's one our best league runs for as long as i can remember. The over reaction is staggering. Were 5 behind and should treat it as 5 behind, and the game in hand is a bonus when the time comes round. Still a lot of football to be played.

Polster is a better player than Flanagan and gets us up the park. He can deliver a good ball as well. If Polster wants the first team he needs to out perform Tav.

He’s not as good as Tav which is why he is the replacement RB.
He is miles better than Flanagan though, and plays the same style of football as Tav. Why he wasn’t played before Flanagan is a mystery only Stevie can tell us.

The majority have been poor since they came back from Dubai, one game is a blip a run of 3 is worrying.

Agreed. That is why getting better than Tav should be his focus.

Agreed mate, it should be the focus of all the squad players to push the guy in front. Although if I was Polster I would be wondering why Flanagan got the start in front of me when he is clearly a better player and keeps that balance of both wing backs attacking.

I was talking to my son after the St Mirren game and we both said 'how bad must Polster be if Flanno is playing ahead of him?' Turns out Polster is a lot better but the gaffer seems to have a blind spot for his old team-mate.

Can be the only conclusion mate, when we also continually get the Ojo sub as well.

On any given day .We can beat them now

We are still miles off being strong enough to romp a title .We may well still win it though .It will require us being at our very best every week .And I don't think we have the back up to support the better players we have .

Yesterday was just a reminder, that SG still isn't utilising the form players we have .He picks his favourites and until he stops doing this .Performances like yesterday will continue

Let's not just blame Flanagan here. Aribo was also dreadful! His first touch was shocking, had numerous chances to set up a counter attack and didn't, never supported defoe at all etc.

Flanagan for me isn't good enough

Yesterday was miles from being his fault alone

Thnakfully SG will surely not use him again for a long time

Flanagan played - I use the word loosely - 45 minutes and took 12 throw ins, 10 of which we lost possession  straight away, one we got another throw and the last he got a foul when unfairly tackled.

Do we need a specialist throw in coach or is Flanagan that bad in all aspects of football except picking up yellow cards?
