Europa League cash

Rangers, who have already made more than £7m from the Europa League this season, will benefit from celtic's failure to join them in the last 16 as they will now receive all of the Scottish share of the television market pool, worth £11.4m, instead of splitting it 50-50 with their city rivals. (Daily Record)

Wee bit misleading. The TV pool is split 11 ways this round (13.4 million Euros amongst 11 competing countries) celtic missing out only gives us another £500 grand or so.

Our total prize and TV cash is probably something like 10ish million Euros at a rough estimate. Add gate receipts and we're likely looking at 19ish million pounds so far in total. This is why Europe's important. We can't do without the kind of cash it generates in this day and age. It's not a distraction. It's a fundamental source of funding.

Aye it’s a bit  misleading, the £11m is split between each nation represented in the last 16, depending on their market share. So in reality we’re only getting an extra couple of hundred thousand, rather than it going to the beasts.

I think you're underestimating gate receipts there. We'll have had 9 home games across the whole run. I make that to be at least £10-12m.

And the first 2 or 3 were really low prices, so receipts would have been substantially lower.

Also given the general principle that gate receipts for these games always prove to be not quite as high as you'd think, because there's always more wains and concessions and some seats are given over for UEFA sponsors, etc, etc.

Possibly slightly north of 17 million, but doubt it'll be much.

It'll be at least 9 games and that was a conservative estimate on ticket prices. I stand by it!

 Aye, forgot the next round. Likely around 10 million for receipts. Add to 9 million in prize and it should be 19 odd million  I'd say.

All this extra money coming in because  Gerard's man management and success in Europe, will enable  us ease the effects massive burden of  the Tims financial dominance/monopoly in Scottish football, which was just as important in the longer term as improving our ability.

Steve Gerrard is now our very own Father Christmas.

It could buy us 2 or 3 quality players.  The prize money in Scotland is abysmal.  As you say, we need regular participation in Europe as the revenue is vital to us.
