March in March

Been meaning to update this for a few days so actually getting round to it.

Didn't do my walk as planned due to this place going on lockdown and having to make sure the in laws were sorted so they could lock down properly. Both are in their 80's so are understandable concerned.

Also trying to plan a new route as my original plan of having a pub crawl through the villages has been scuppered by the pubs all being closed down. Not to worry I have a few ideas. I will do the walk on either Sunday or Monday and post the results here.

I would also like to thank everybody who has donated or taken part so far. I know that it is much appreciated. However due to current events they will be losing a lot of money as their biggest fundraising events are being cancelled. So yeah I am going to ask all who can to either donate or prefably sign up. A wee walk through nature could do a lot of folk good right now and lets face it most on here could probably do it just by walking for their cargo for the week

Here is the email that I got this morning telling us what they will be doing during the current crisis.

We understand that anxiety and uncertainty are high at this time. But please know, we continue to do everything we can to support veterans during this difficult time and, as always, improving veteran mental health remains our priority. With your support we can continue to help those who need us.

In light of the Government's recent advice, we've taken steps to protect the health and safety of veterans and our staff by implementing the following:

Veteran treatment and support:

We're following the Government's advice and closing our treatment centres. All veterans receiving residential treatment will be leaving our treatment centres by the end of the week once they can do so properly and safely. Further support will be offered via phone and video call.

Our therapists across the country are moving from face-to-face appointments to phone or video call appointments so veterans can continue to receive our specialist support.

Our Peer Support Service continues as a virtual service via phone and video call.

We host webinars to help and support partners – we plan for these to continue.

We're seeking ways to extend our Art Therapy online.

Our 24-hour Helpline remains open, providing confidential advice and support to veterans and their families.

And finally — any veteran currently receiving our support can also contact their usual clinical team member for more help and advice via their usual email address or telephone number.

Our Fundraising team:

Our Fundraising team are working from home and can be contacted through the usual channels for business as usual:

Emails will be received as normal. Please continue to email us.

Our office phones have been diverted so you can still call us.

If you're sending information or a donation in the post, please bear with us. There may be a delay in acknowledging letters and donations and paying in cheques.

Veterans still need your support

The social impact of Coronavirus means that, now more than ever, veterans with complex mental health problems still need your help.

If you're able to make a donation to support us through this difficult time, we'd really appreciate it. Thank you for supporting veterans at this challenging time.

Donate now

Over the coming days, we'll be adding help and advice on our website and social media channels, providing tips and advice on how you can manage your mental health if you’re unable to leave the house. So do watch for this – it may help.

Hope you all stay healthy, Darth Bear. Never doubted you would find a way to complete your walk.

On you go big man :tu:

I would advise all bears to do as @Junior Soprano has done and do the walk instead of sponsoring.

That's right don't sponsor me join in.

Seriously these boys need our help more than ever with whats going on.

Seriously this is more important than s donation as far as I'm concerned.

It's easy to say that you are staunch just as easy to take a wee walk.

All down to mental health🙏🙏🙏🙏

Mate my brother is fucked. I know things that people shouldn't.

Really have to say this is s really important time for our veterans.

Also that it is more important to sign up than donate but take your pick.

Right then in typical fashion I have left it till the last minute to do this. Well I actually did the distance a couple of days ago but forgot to switch the app on 😂

I know that it a lot of people have a lot more on their minds at the moment but if any can donate who haven't already then I am sure that Combat Stress will be very appreciative. This is a hard time especially for those with mental health problems and there will be a lot of veterans bouncing of the walls. Fundraisers have been cancelled as events have been so every little bit will help at the moment even if it is just a quid or two. It all helps. I would also add please take the time to give the gift aid as well. It gives an extra 25% to any donation which obviously helps. So going to have a cup of tea and fill my hip flask and set out in a bit to do what I've been pestering everyone else to do.

I'll post a couple of updates on my way to help relieve boredom and bump the post.
