In the light of developments due to the spread of COVID-19 in Europe and related decisions made by different governments, all UEFA club competitions matches scheduled next week are postponed.

This includes the remaining UEFA Champions League, Round of 16 second leg matches scheduled on 17 and 18 March 2020; all UEFA Europa League, Round of 16 second leg matches scheduled on 19 March 2020; all UEFA Youth League, quarter-final matches scheduled on 17 and 18 March 2020.

Further decisions on when these matches take place will be communicated in due course.

As a consequence of the postponements, the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League quarter-final draws scheduled for 20 March have also been postponed.

UEFA yesterday invited representatives of its 55 member associations, together with the boards of the European Club Association and the European Leagues and a representative of FIFPro, to a videoconference meeting on Tuesday 17 March to discuss European football’s response to the outbreak.

Leigh Griffiths has had it for years and he's still soldiering on.

Looking at that ugly bastard, Coronavirus is the least of his problems

It sounds great in theory but will only realistically cover a small % of the shortfall businesses face.

No doubt, but so what?

At the end of the day, this is the biggest health crisis to hit the world in the last 100 years.

The health of Raith Rovers means little in the circumstances.

The EPL fixtures will be cancelled for this weekend leaving us looking foolish clinging onto playing a game in front of 50k one day but (scheduling for 72 hours ahead) banning gatherings of 500+ the next.

It would take our club to push for cancellation  and they won't . The bastards will only be thinking about the money or refunds

Our game on Sunday will be cancelled too once the English announce they are suspending their season.

When it comes to football the SFA/SPFLjust copy what happens in England to be honest

Rumours that the EPL will cancel the season and use the xG model to forecast the remaining games.  In which case Man City win the league.

Because it's not just prize money. TV money and prize money is pooled and paid throughout the year. Clubs will be guaranteed a minimum payment based on their division, with that amount paid out over the course of the campaign and their final position will trigger a final payment.

Well, I was just talking about prize money and it looks like they will get all that anyway. The other issue is TV money which I didn't mention, with 80% of the season complete, if there is a proportionate 20% amount left to pay, it depends what the TV contract says about this force majeure situation. As someone else said, the government may step in to help clubs as businesses. I doubt anyone is going to the wall here.

Our government on Thursday stated the 500+ gathering restrictions were to kick in from monday. The only logical explanation is they wanted this game to take place before the rules kicked in. We can speculate on why this is, but imo the last thing they want to do is have it cancelled.

When you read that mate, it just sums up how fuckin stupid it is, Sunday, 50,000 football fans in a stadium, pubs and clubs all over the country crammed with peoples watching,... Monday, 500 + banned!!!

It’s only recommended, the excuse that the game goes ahead comes from the pish that there is low health risk ,theory that anybody with symptoms shouldn’t be going anyway and that there is no strain on emergency services yet and the shifts have been allocated .

Common sense says that emergency services will be stretched in the near future so why not let them have a break

What the REAL reason us up for debate

So what do you propose? Every set of circumstances - bar continuing as normal - will affect every club in Scotland worse than celtic.

If it’s not palatable for EFL clubs to play games behind closed doors possibly forcing the demise of football teams then it shouldn’t be palatable for Scottish football either. Suspension seems to be where they’re at, allowing these clubs gate income at a later date. If the government is forcing teams to play that rely on gate receipts then it’s incumbent on the government to replace that income that’ll be lost. Would expulsion of the league be better than playing behind closed doors, not sure but guess they won’t have the costs that come from hosting the game i.e ground care but still help should be giving to smaller teams.
