Good game this. That wording is accurate and makes perfect sense logically and within the structure of the sentence.

That's good but it's not right according to rule c38 of the SPFL Rules and Regulations.

The answer is Season.

Which, just incase you forgot, is defined thus: 'Season means the period of the year commencing on the date of the first League Match in a Season and ending on the date of the last League Match in the same Season or otherwise as determined by the Board and which excludes the Close Season.'

It's difficult to be specific when so much is missing from the original sentence.

Ive removed the parts that arent relevant. I'll add them back in if it then allows you to complete the rule with your definition of season ( from the rule book) with it making sense .

Your kidding yourself on. So just at the drop of a hat they can change the rules mid competition without any warning?

Not at the drop of a hat but if circumstances dictate that the board can adjust the Season, they have the power to. And it seems they've been briefing clubs thats exactly what they'll do.

It's probably stand up fine because it's in the rule book every club signed up to at the start of the Season.

Can you put a link up to that ruling please.

I have heard you mention it but it hasn’t been reported in the press which you would think it would as a push to claim their favourite team as winners.

Yes and you're ignoring teams shall play 38 games in this season.

Not my definition but the one used inthe document you lifted the original sentence from. It's the SPFL's definition of season.

What's the point in football in this country if during a league campaign they can change shit?

Because the league have the power to change that. The Champion club is the one at the top of the league at the end of the Season. That appears to be how the league are also interpreting it as they are briefing clubs they'll be sticking with the table as is.

A definition of something typically slots in to replace the term it refers to.  In this case season means period of the year..... etc.

So you should be able to replace the term season with the drginutuon and it shoukd make as much sense as if the original term was used.

Why cant / wont you?

There’s 2 scenarios that can play out now. In a few weeks we realise that footballers and 97% of the population will shrug this virus off in 2/3 days and we start playing again and life returns too some normality.

Or we cancel every game for the next year every time a footballer contracts Coronavirus and every office in the country self isolates everytime someone contracts it etc and the country financially implodes on itself.

I’m going for the former to be the case.

Then they're misinterpreting their rule.

Because the SPFL rules expressly state that capitalised words will only be used as per the definition in the rulebook - which is...first to last game or at the board's discretion.

There almost certainly won't be any football played in Scotland until July/August.

They state 38 games will be played in a season. The definition of season allows for ambiguity, but none if it detracts from the rule saying clubs shall play 38 games.
