Hastie Loaned to Motherwell

Recommended Posts

Rangers Football Club can confirm attacker Jake Hastie will join Motherwell on-loan for the 2020/21 season, with a recall option in January 2021.

Hastie joined from The Steelmen in 2019 before heading out on-loan to Rotherham United last season.

The 21-year-old, Scottish U21 international will continue his development and gain further experience of the Scottish Premiership.

Sporting Director, Ross Wilson commented: “Jake needs to keep playing first team football and continue his development. We wanted that learning to come in the Scottish Premiership this season.

“Our discussions with Motherwell have been positive and we share the same goal to make this loan experience a strong one .”

Personally thought we should've left him there last season. Was playing well there, easy to keep an eye on, makes a team against them stronger while making them weaker against us.

Anyway, job done.

Job done would be selling him and bringing in funds to add to our transfer kitty aswell as cutting his wages from our bill.

He's never going to be good enough to play for us, another payoff in a year or he'll leave for nothing. Pointless signing from the very beginning.

We would need to see more from hastie for us to get any transfer fee and any Scots club that may interested is skint at the moment.

This manager of theirs appears  very good at getting the best from what hes got , so  gives us time and the lad should improve.

Decent move  all round , just wish we could have got them to pay more of the lad's wages but then you always want that

How much are they paying?

Good move, can play against the taigs and needs first team football.

Hes an interesting player, really different to most RWs we see. Is very direct and powerful and can score a lot of goals cutting inside, but his crossing and passing is pretty poor.

He’s a bit like a Gareth Bale in terms of style of play (but obviously not in the same league in terms of talent). If he develops, he’s the kind of player that could prove really useful. Still young so needs a couple more years of improvement via loans before he’ll be able to be judged on

I have no issues with picking up young boys like this for little outlay, do find it strange the loan was terminated early in Jan then he couldn’t get in a team that was fucking woeful.  Surely couldn’t be any worse than some of the shite we were served up!

Loan in the league and playing against everyone, bar us, is no bad thing and he’s still young, time will tell, but fear he will be released from his contract this time next year.

Rotherham were raving about him when he first went there, to then find himself so out of the picture must have been strange.

He fell into the category of 'I'd rather we signed him than the scum did' but the year he's had has set him back. Hopefully he's a standout for Motherwell but he's got it all against him to make it with us.

Players improve, we didn't buy the finished article, he may or may not be good enough eventually, but he was a signing worth taking a chance on, that's what we have to do as a club in our position, buy young, get them to progress, and increase resale value.

Really struggling to remember the last time a player went out on loan and came back and had a impact on our first team.

Probably Barrie McKay

FWIW I thought halliday came back a better player after his loan abroad.

Just a shame he still wasn't quite good enough overall.

One of the most frustrating things about modern football is clubs buying young players like this after one good season. Clubs should be patient and see how they are developing after a couple of years before going in. At the very least we should have loaned him back to Motherwell last season.

Went down to watch Sunderland play Rotherham last September. Hastie was absolutely electric that night. Easily the best player on the park and looked a cut above.

Seemed to lose his way a bit after that. Think Motherwell is a good place for him to find his feet again. I'm not ruling him out just yet but this is a make or break loan for him I feel.
