Lazio To Move Stadium?

Lazio President Claudio Lotito is threatening to relocate the side to a new site south of Rome if the Biancocelesti can’t build a new stadium in the Eternal City.

Roma and Lazio currently share the Stadio Olimpico, but the site is much closer to the main bulk of the Giallorossi fanbase than the Aquile faithful.

Lotito has been seeking permission to build a new stadium for Lazio for the last three years, but claims he has met with a wall of red-tape.

“If the council fail to understand the importance of this project, I’m ready to move Lazio to Valmontone, where they would be delighted to host a single-use stadium,†he growled on Radio Radio.

The comune of Valmontone is located 45km south of the capital and is a hotbed of Lazio support. The council are keen to embrace development and there are plans to build Europe’s biggest theme park nearby.

"I don’t want to cause trouble with anyone, but this is something that needs to happen for the good of the city and if we don’t get the go-ahead shortly we won’t have any trouble relocating to Valmontone,†Lotito threatened.

“We haven’t forgotten that the majority of our fans live outside the city of Rome.â€

However, the man in charge of town planning in Rome Roberto Morassut has stressed his disappointment at Lotito’s impatience and claims he hasn’t seen a full proposal for a stadium in the city.

“Lotito knows our position well,†he insisted. “If he suggests a site that is allowed under our new regulations we will look at it carefully, but we have been waiting two years for such a proposal.â€
