If they win the trophy they get automatic qualification to the CL and we'd still have to navigate 4 rounds of qualifiers if we won the league. I'd argue them winning it would be even more damaging to us, as it guarantees them an extra £30-40million before the summer transfer window begins. Personally I think it all comes down to momentum in league run-ins. The tims` form is deteriorating and whilst we`ve been inconsistent the entire season you get the feeling under Murty we`ve been on the cusp of building a solid run several times.
