"I believe that we need a midfield player who can make a pass and make a difference in the Champions League."

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers told supporters during a Q&A earlier this week exactly what he's looking for in the summer transfer window.

He's got some good options with Scott Brown , Stuart Armstrong and Tom Rogic but Rodgers is looking for a pass master to take his side to the next level.

Celtic haven't spent big on transfer fees for the better part of a decade but with the Scottish champions in rude health financially, it would be a major surprise if they didn't make a big splash in the transfer market.

Rodgers admitted he was keen on Ademola Lookman who signed for Everton from Charlton for £11million so there are funds available to strengthen the first-team squad.

Record Sport Online takes a look at some top talents Rodgers could make a move for.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers outlines his summer signing targets and makes a quality midfielder the No1 priority

Monchengladbach's star midfielder only joined from Bayer Leverkusen last summer but his quality was evident in both fixtures against Celtic in this season’s Champions League.

His rise to prominence at the BayArena led to him breaking into the Germany side which won the World Cup in 2014.

Kramer started in the Final but was substituted after he suffered a concussion after a nasty collision with Ezequiel Garay.

Marco Van Ginkel

He was the prince of Dutch football when he left Chelsea for Vitesse Arnhem in 2013.

An £8million fee for the 18-year-old looked shrewd business by the Stamford Bridge side but a horror knee injury put paid to his first season in English football.

He's manfully fought back from the serious career setback and looks to have found his feet in his second loan spell at PSV.

He's taller than your average playmaker at 6ft 1in and there's similarities with current Hoops star Tom Rogic.

Van Ginkel has the type of vision few players possess, he has an innate ability to make a pass in anticipation of where a team-mate is going to be.

He's getting to top form and the 24-year-old is only going to get better in the next few years.

Price tag: £8-10million

Will Hughes

The English Championship's version of Falkirk Craig Sibbald in the fact he's been tipped for a big move but it's never materialised.

Derby midfielder Hughes probably hasn't lived up to his billing as the next Paul Scholes but an anterior cruciate knee injury slowed the progression for a player who has earned 17 caps for the England Under-21s.

The 21-year old is the rarest of things though, a young British player who has made more than 150 club appearances outwith the glare of the Premier League.

Fofana fits the bill in terms of his play and the fact he started his career at Manchester City.

Celtic have enjoyed a strong relationship with the Premier League side in recent years with Patrick Roberts, John Guidetti and Jason Denayer arriving on loan, along with a permanent deal for Dedryck Boyata.

The 21-year-old enjoyed loan spells at Fulham and Bastia before making a permanent switch to Udinese last summer.

It's nothing to do with the manager. They can afford to pay several cunts £50k a week, I'd be more worried who wasn't capable of strolling the league throwing money around like that.
