From STV site:

Celtic's UEFA Champions League conquerors Legia Warsaw say they are being investigated by UEFA over allegedly fielding an ineligible player in their second leg tie.

Bartosza Bereszyński came on as a substitute with four minutes to go at Murrayfield, although the governing body are considering a complaint the player should have been suspended for the match.

In a statement, Legia confirmed they have prepared a submission to UEFA regarding the matter.

If found to have fielded an ineligible player, Legia could be disqualified from the competition, with Celtic advancing to the play-off stage.

Bereszyński was sent off in the UEFA Europa League last season. The duration of his subsequent ban was for three games but he missed Legia's next three UEFA matches against St Patrick's Athletic and the home leg of his side's tie with Celtic.

UEFA regulations however state that a ban only applies to a player if he is listed in a club's squad for matches. As the player in question was not on Legia's squad list for the St Patrick's tie, he would have been ineligible for the Celtic match.

Would be interested to know who made complaint? Must have went through recent events, match paperwork and EUFA rules with fine tooth comb to bring this to light.

6-1 down and the guy played 4 mins, a fine should be adequate. I saw some time try to use the excuse that they are a "bigger" team and Uefa would want them there  May be bigger but clearly aren't better you mongo

They're fuckin shite and NO ONE wants them there.

Uefa will surely not put them out for that. He served a 3 game ban but wasn't on the squad sheet for 1. It's a clerical error. Desperate from ra shellick , they must really need the money.

UEFA fines Debrecen for using ineligible player

Posted 9/1/2010 6:30 AM | Comment | Recommend E-mail | Print |

NYON, Switzerland (AP) — UEFA has fined Debrecen <emdash />15,000 ($19,200) for fielding an ineligible player in the Europa League, but rejected a protest by opponent Litex Lovech to kick the Hungarians out of the competition.

UEFA says its disciplinary panel agreed that Peter Mate should not have played last Thursday in the second leg of the playoffs. But UEFA says Debrecen used Mate in good faith as a substitute in Bulgaria when it led 4-1 on aggregate.

UEFA says Debrecen had "no interest in fielding this player for the three last minutes of additional time, when the score was so clearly in its favor."

Litex can appeal the ruling before Debrecen opens group play on Sept. 16 at home against Ukrainian club Metalist Kharkiv.

Surely UEFA won't do them a favour, given this clear precedent. It's a perfect parallel.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a wee bribe for one of the Legia staff in there by the scum. It's just too convenient after all their various favours. Did Vincent Lunny move to Poland? ;)

In Sion's case, they openly defied UEFA repeatedly, and took their chances in court.

To me it looks like this will be a fine, they gained no advantage from the player and it's quite clear he sat out the 3 ties he was suspended from but they just didn't include him rather than name him on the team sheet.

Daft mistake but that's all it is

Dont get the thing that he has to be included in the squad.

You have to name your squad for each round, not each game do you not? So that means he must have been named in the squad for the two games against Celtic because he played in the second leg?

It will surely have to be a fine

First he only played 2 minutes. Then the next reports said it was 3 minutes. Now they've got it up to 4 minutes.

By lunchtime tomorrow, it'll be that he played both fixtures in full, scoring all 6 goals, while clearing several dozen ceptic chances off the line in each match.

There's either been some huge investigation by the scum, or they've bribed some Pole to do them a favour. Suspicions will centre round that blonde bird in the trouser suit that was quite active in the dugout area.

Also worth mentioning the fact he was named on the bench and the paperwork will have been submitted but no UEFA official told them before the end of the match, never mind kick off.

In the amateur league I played in all suspended players had to be named to serve their suspension as we found out when one boy was out for 2 months and came back and as he hadn't been included he had to sit out an extra game for his one match ban

But it is only an admin issue rather than a Sion who done whatever the fuck they wanted
