Batman 0
Over the last few years there has been a great rise in Romanian football and their players. Romania is now ranked the 7th best league in Europe and their players can be signed for relatively low wages by UK standards due to the poor economy of Romania. Their national team consistantly does well and will be playing in euro 2008. Instead of signing unathletic donkeys like McCulloch, are scouts should be checking out places like Romania for quality players that won't cost that much money. http://www.xs4all.nl/~kassiesa/bert/uefa/d.../crank2008.html
disgruntled_bear 157
I agree but our Scouting Network really is a joke.
Speuan 1
fair enough but there are literally loads of countries that fall into this category, we need to employ more scouts, and have them looking in certain regions to actually get any joy though. While Romania have been a decent football country for a long time, that high ranking is a bit false. A couple of years a go they got a high score that was a inflated by an idiosyncrasy of the co-efficient system. The Portuguese (8) and Dutch (9) leagues are better. MikeBlue 136
This sort of thread is all very well, but it's worth remembering that there have been a fair few Romanian players over the years who didn't perform when they went to foreign clubs - not least Hagi. We've been down the route of signing a load of mid price foreign players before and it wasn't that successful. Interesting that this year was our best run in Europe since 1992/1993 when we also had a predominantly Scottish team. The Czech team is pretty good - maybe we should sign that bloke who scored 2 against Scotland on Friday - he looked great.
