Andy's Handy

From Andrew Dickson in Lotte

ANDY WEBSTER will make his first top-team appearance for Rangers for over 10 months tonight when he starts the friendly with Sportfreunde Lotte.

The former Hearts star has been sidelined for the best part of a year with knee and hernia problems, both of which required operations.

John FleckBut having recently signed a three-year permanent deal after coming north on loan from Wigan, he will return to action against the side from German football's fourth tier.

The 26-year-old's only competitive appearance for Gers came last September as he scored the second goal in a 4-0 win over Gretna at Ibrox.

Webster replaces David Weir at the heart of defence and his inclusion represents one of seven changes to the team which beat SC Preussen Munster 1-0 on Sunday.

Goalkeeper Graeme Smith, Kirk Broadfoot, Nacho Novo, John Fleck, Kris Boyd and Daniel Cousin are also making their first starts of the warm-up campaign.

That means Weir, Neil Alexander, Steven Whittaker, Kenny Miller and Jean-Claude Darcheville all fall out of the first XI.

Charlie Adam and DaMarcus Beasley are also omitted because of injuries they picked up at the weekend.

Kyle Lafferty still isn't in the squad because of a minor back injury, although he has started running again in training and is making good progress.

With the substitutes still to be announced, it is expected latest signing Andrius Velicka - who joined up with his new team-mates on Monday - will be among them.

RANGERS: G. Smith; Broadfoot, Dailly, Webster, Papac; Novo, Thomson, McCulloch, Fleck; Boyd, Cousin.

Substitutes to follow.

The fact that Furman doesn't start is nothing short of a disgrace and again shows why Walter is not the man to take us forward IMO.

Bit harsh. Because he's not playing a 20 year old in a friendly means he's not going to take us forward? He's playing Fleck.

If we're told in the commentary that Lee is out wide and Fleck is central then I'll apologise (tu)

Only apologise for using that reason, I still think Walt isn't the right man to take us forward neverhteless.
