I think Lafferty's lack of games showed after the adreneline wore off, but he looked up for it when he first came on. Aye, i'd agree with that, Boyd isn't suited to 4-5-1, we shouldn't have even been playing with a lone striker today, at that point anyway. I thought Lafferty was going to give us a NI style appearance when he first came on, but like you said, as the game got on, he disappeared somewhere. Caught out the defence and they didn't expect Boyd to win the ball and stick it through for him. Unfortunate for him that he had to come off injured - I'd have hooked him off at half time. Lafferty may not have been great, but he worked hard, and helped out the defence and midfield when we were under pressure, and that's something you would not have seen Boyd doing! He managed to completely miss a free header at the second goal this deceiving the sellik defence as they thought to themselves "No cnut could ever miss that free header" Whilst amazed and confused at Boyds buffoonery and inadequacy they went to sleep and allowed Miller to score. His 'attitude' was clear for all to see on cup final day I give up with some people on here, we won, we scored two goals we beat the tims and Boyd had a hand in the first goal, he won a few headers he lost few, he did track back and chase on the right wing. Novo missed a snip at the end, if that was boyd this thread would be 10 pages longer still. Fucksake Bears we won even though we played shite lets try to stick together for a change. What do you call the assist then? He scores and nothing else, and he "isn't contributing, he could do better, assist, bring others into the game.." He doesn't score but assists his fellow striker score a goal, and he still "isn't contributing"? What else is he to do? He could work harder, or be more skillful, but crikey. Today he wasn't the best player on the pitch, by any means. But to say he didn't contribute is rather harsh, after actually scoring, an assist is probably the next best thing that contributes to the team winning the game. He held the ball up, was shite in the air as usual, and helped Stevie Smith out on a number of occassions. He also did a power of running, and followed the runner. villagebluenose 0 Posted October 4, 2009 Share Posted October 4, 2009 Done well to play Miller in and tried a bit harder than usual in the air against them by his own standards but apart from that was pretty poor overall imo and his lack of anticipation, mobility and effort is shocking at times for me as is his fitness, he looked like he was running through water and blowing out his erse after 20 minutes, Simply not fit/good enough for that level and it showed again today imo. At best id use him off the bench in the latter stages when his poor fitness,mobility and effort dont get exposed as much with players tired and usually defending deeper allowing him to get in the box more. Was a difficult situation for him to be thrown into. Boyd had the assist today and was working hard, for all we know he could have found that elusive goal if he hadn't had to come off prematurely. Poetry_In_Blue 1,043 Posted October 5, 2009 Share Posted October 5, 2009 The biggest mistake made wasn't Boyd's fault, his pass to split the Celtic defence was inch perfect to set Miller's goal up, the biggest mistake was Walter's or even possibly Ally's mistake in all honesty seeing that Walter had to sit in the stand and shouldn't have been given any instructions! Was the decision to revert to a 4-5-1. I believe if we had continued in a 4-4-2 formation we might have nicked another goal by half time. Im not sure if we were watching the same game. Lafferty worked his socks off when he came on, giving their defence many problems. Considering he is just back from injury, he did very well IMO. For a big lad, ive always noticed this, plus lafferty rarely jumps... the plus side from Lafferty was that he managed to hold the ball up well when the ball came into his feet, wether that be in the air or along the ground, he seemed much more comfortable at that than bringing it down with his chest or knocking it down with his head... he had a moment in the second half where he had 2 or 3 touches with nobody around him to bring the ball down and get it under control and he still ended up losing it, we were under so much pressure at the time though none of our strikers were getting much of a sniff of the ball. The Rangers star turned on his tormentors last night as his patience finally snapped in the wake of yet more personal attacks. Boyd has had his fill of what he sees as over-the-top abuse - and has challenged the critics who are caning him to take him for a coaching session at Murray Park. The Ibrox No 9 said: "Instead of writing their columns or going on the radio and mouthing off, why don't they come in to Murray Park and show me themselves what I'm supposed to be doing wrong? "Failing that they could get my mobile number and give me a ring. "But I'd much prefer it if they came in and showed me themselves. "They could take us all for a coaching session - that would help us instead of them taking digs all the time. "We've got some very good coaches at Ibrox, but there are some out there who clearly believe they can do better. "So why don't they come in and show us? "If they care about the club as much as they say they do they should be coming in and giving us an hour of their valuable time. "If it makes me a better player then I'm all for it." Stick from the likes of Derek Johnstone, Mark Hateley and Charlie Nicholas has stung Boyd the most. He blasted: "You're always a better player when you've finished the game and hung up your boots. "I have been criticised since I joined Rangers, it's nothing new to me and it doesn't affect me any more. "I score goals and if I'm not then fine, criticise me. But it has gone too far. "Every time there is a Scotland game on I've got to sit and watch the TV and there's a guy there who will say I should have done this or I should have done that. "I've not been happy with the start I've made to the season. But at the same time some of the criticism has been over the top. But with the cash-strapped Ibrox club poised to deliver a crushing contract blow, the fans' favourite knows he might have to. SunSport revealed yesterday that Rangers have started the ball rolling on a new deal for the 26-year-old striker. But it's emerged Boyd will be forced to take a whopping drop in wages if he is to stay with his boyhood heroes. TALKS ... Walter Smith He wants a pay deal in line with other regulars in Walter Smith's first team. The former Scotland star is paid less than frontline team mates Kyle Lafferty and Kenny Miller - despite being the club's top goalscorer for the last three years. Now Boyd - who is free to talk to other clubs in January - could be forced out of Ibrox unless Gers bosses up the ante. Boyd told SunSport: "Everybody knows my feeling towards Rangers.
