I don’t think for one second it’s “lack of interest” nor can that be levelled at the manager/coaching staff.
Its just a complete lack of Confidence, the mental aspect of football is huge and once you’re in a rut it’s hard to get back out.
Sometimes a change around the place, difference faces and different methods can make a massive difference.
This is why when new managers arrive at clubs players all of a sudden start playing much better (look at Villa for example).
The same thing happened at Rangers when Gio first arrived, Gerrard was struggling a bit in the league but Gio had us winning 6 or 7 games in a row.
That initial boost quickly fades and the ability of the manager to make it a long term thing becomes important.

I agree, something not right here, wasn't even overly stretching or full pelt, wtf going on with the conditioning.

There's zero advantage to paying him off when we will spend the same amount on keeping his contract and actually have a (small) chance of getting some playing time out of him.

There is a bit of everything mixed in. We have been unlucky to draw Napoli who are one of the form teams in Europe.
 
We also should have been lucky to have drawn Ajax on what appears to be a down season for them (in Europe at least) but put in an awful performance against them, didn’t really turn up at Anfield and then shat the bed at half time at Ibrox.
 
I can reluctantly accept that for all we want to go toe-to-toe with every opponent, the teams we are playing against can afford better talent that can at times rip us apart.  I can’t accept sloppy goals from players not tracking simple runs, a team that isn’t prepared to outrun their opponents and let a positive first half turn into a capitulation when some pressure was applied.
 
Mostly I can’t accept meek management that doesn’t appear to have players fired up and ready to run through the opponents for them and bizarre selection / tactical decisions.

Point is that other teams from that Europa League level that we have beaten in recent seasons are capable of stepping up and at least putting up a good fight in the CL.
