Ally McCoist as a player rose in the face of adversity, I don't expect a man of his strong character and stature will falter as manager. I'm sure a certain Alex Ferguson suffered similar disdain from supporters over his management of his early tenure at Man Utd, with calls for his head? Would be interesting to hear from those impatient whinging experts 20 odd years ago, on what their opinions are of him now? I also don't doubt that the ones calling for Ally's head last night and today, where the very ones calling for Walter's after the 3-0 defeat at Fir Park before the title decider in 1991. Sure, I'm gutted we were defeated in a CL qualifier by a team we should have beaten. However, I wish some of our moronic fan base would look beyond the bad result and seek reason beyond the scoreline. If any finger pointing is taking place, should it not be more directed to Craig Whyte than anybody else? The board were well aware on the need to rebuild quickly, yet our idea of negotiating in the transfer market has been sitting on deals to be eventually squeezed out, it's hardly swift action? The Season also started 3 weeks early, our lack of sharpness and match fitness has been clearly evident and was always going to put us at a disadvantage against a side midway through their domestic season. I think "comfortable" CL qualifiers (Kaunas, AEK Athens, Gothenburg, Red Star Belgarde, Famugusta etc etc) have been few and far between for any Rangers manager, so to single Ally out as a failure at his first attempt seems ludicrous. Let's be honest, if Naismith or Papac took their chance in the final moments of last night's game, it would be Super Ally the masterful tactician who conquered Europe with 9 men! So lets get things into context before congregating to the guillotine of Ally's execution. Like any manager, they need time. And if the past few seasons has taught us anything, it's how you finish a season, not how you start. Also, maybe try and look at the positives, at least this result gives McCoist a platform to assert his authority on his players and set a precedent on future performances for the team? A result like this should also confirm to Craig Whyte the essential need to improve the squad and prompt much needed spending into the squad before the August 31st deadline. But to have Ally portrayed as even unfit to polish the marble staircase after 4 competitive matches, never mind manage the team? Is that really true support???
