  1. With their being a EPL and La Liga discussion thread, I thought I'd make one for the Calcio fans of RM.

So Serie A is finally back on British TV after a season away and ESPN will cover up to 3 games a week!

So here is a mini preview of the upcoming Serie A season!

Players to watch for at each club -

    Atalanta: Robert Acquafresca

    Bari: Paulo Barreto

    Bologna: Pablo Osvaldo

    Cagliari: Nene

    Catania: Marco Biagianti

    Chievo: Segio Pellissier

    Fiorentina: Marco Marchionni

    Genoa: Rodrigo Palacio

    Inter: Diego Milito

    Juventus: Diego

    Lazio: Mauro Zarate

    Livorno: Francesco Tavano

    Milan: Klaas-Jan Huntelaar

    Napoli: Luca Cigarini

    Palermo: Javier Pastore

    Parma: Valeri Bojinov

    Roma: Daniele De Rossi

    Sampdoria: Giampaolo Pazzini

    Siena: Albin Ekdal

    Udinese: Gaetano D'Agostino

    Capocannoniere prediction: Diego Milito(Inter Milan)

    Serie A Standings Prediction

    1. Inter

    2. Juventus

    3. AC Milan

    4. Fiorentina

    18. Siena

    19. Chievo

    20. Bari

I can't see the top 4 changing from last season. Inter and Juventus will be further ahead, Milan will battle with Fiorentina for 3rd. Roma, Udinese, Sampdoria and Napoli will fight for Europa League places.

Siena's away form will let them down, Chievo won't manage beyond 2 seasons in the top flight. Only a strong finish last season kept them safe. And despite a few good individuals, I don't think Bari are as strong as Livorno and Parma who were also promoted from Serie B.

So here's hoping for a great season of Serie A on ESPN :D

Not much to watch here, easily the best defensive midfielder in Italy now, and that's not going to change this season. Keep an eye out for Matteo Brighi. Excellent last season, and will be expected to raise his game even more now that Aquilani's goen. Also watch out for Marco Motta, he sould well be in the Italian starting XI for the World Cup if he continues to progress at his current rate.

Actually I reckon that with a wee bit of luck we can get a title challenge going.

Or keep an eye out for Marco Motta, the right back, he was sensational in the second half of last season!!

  2. What's the deal with the crowd size at this? I know the San Siro holds a good 85k, but surely a team as widely supported as Inter can fill more than half it...

One end of the ground behind the goals is for Milan fans, the opposite side is for Inter fans, the other 2 sides are for tourists and neutrals, doubt there would be many tourisits around for that game, Bari aren't exactly the most appealing of opponents.

  3. What an absolute joke of a penalty , I wouldnt rule out more match fixing seeing stuff like that

    Etoo 1-0

Depends on who you ask but there are conspiracy theorists who believe that Inter Milan were in fact behind the whole calciopoli scandal. Which in a way would make sense since I believe Moratti has been one of the board of directors for Telecom Italia for roughly 8 years. It would also make sense since Inter are the team they have benefited from that scandal as before they never looked getting close to breaking both AC and Juventus in particular dominance of Italian football. Inter had quite a few decisions that went their way last season before the season even reached January, I am sure there was an article on the football italia website about it.

One Incident last season that went Inter's way was in the Milan derby when Adriano clearly used his hand to put the ball in the back of the net, also in the same game Inzaghi scored but the goal got disallowed for offside but he was in fact on side.

    Decisions, Decisions, Decisions!

  4. I thought the Lithuanian Danilevicius was Livorno's captain, I do agree that Tavano has the potential to be a world class player but time is running out for him.

I agree with you about Parma staying up they also signed Panucci in the summer which should prove a useful additiom.

I disagree that Genoa will miss Milito and Motta they have replaced both with quality players, Milito with Crespo and Palacio, I know Crespo may be old but I still think he will bang them in and they have relaced Motta with Zapater are more than capable replacement for Zaragoza. They might miss Rubinho though he was one of the best keepers in serie a last season where as Amelia hasn't been at his best for a while!

I do agree with Sampdoria's strikeforce being one of the best, if not the best in the league, they proved as much from January last year and for that reason they could be a suprise package.

  5. How can you not have Marco Di Vaio as Bologna's player to watch, the man pretty much kept them up single handedly last season !

Also at Livorno should the player to look out for not be the returning Lucarelli?

And at Sampdoria I would be more looking out for Palombo he has been playing at a level higher than Sampdoria are currently at for a while now but remains loyal to them

I have to disagree with your league positions, I think it is Juve's year, they already had the best defence in the league last year, they have got the most fire power in the league and with the addition of Diego and Melo they have improved their midfield.

I am not too sure of Inter they have signed 2 great forwards but i am unsure if they will click, I thought Milito preferred playing off a big striker someone like Ibra and Eto'o isn't that forward. Which is why I think letting Cruz go was a big mistake as he could of provided the perfect alternative which I think will ultimately cost Inter the league.

As for Milan maybe they should forget this nonsense about getting Ronaldinho back to his best and then they will get somewhere, during the second Milan derby last year there didn't look like there was much between the sides it was more luck than anything else that meant Inter won. Milan need to keep Nesta fit to have a chance of anything, I am also inclined to say now Kaka is gone let Seedorf play in his favoured position. Milan will finish 3rd a safe but distant third.

I am not too sure about Fiorentina finishing fourth they need to strengthen their defence, I have a feeling that Genoa will finish fourth they have added some depth and quality to their team to prevent them falling away like they did last season e.g Crespo.

  6. This would be the same DJ that guaranteed that Scott Brown would sign for Rangers therefore If he really said it I wouldn't treat it as the gospel. There is a lot of people not in the know who like to speculate on things which they know little or nothing about.
