With the current situation around first team players wages and the options open to them a question. Has the transfer window helped or hindered us? If there were no transfer window then we would be in the situation of being able to sell players at this point rather than having to terminate contracts. This could have given the option to sell some of the higher earners alleviating the wage bill and bringing in funds from their sale. However this could have led to us losing some of our top players. Imagine a bid came in for Davis, McGregor or Edu at this point with an open window unless it was taking the piss could we really have turned it down? From the players point would you take a wage cut when you could angle for a move elsewhere and still look like the good guy as you can point to vital funds coming in from your move and the reduction to the wage bill. For me I feel the transfer window has actually helped us more as its meant us holding on to our top players. Granted we could still lose players we might not have had we been able to bring in funds but the priority at the moment is 2nd place and that requires those top players more rather than a large squad.

Everytime I hear something mentioned about Lee McCulloch I get a horrible feeling hes going to play over 30 games this season and putting in the kind of performances that can be at best descibed as average as Walter Smith goes on about how he "puts in a shift". Is he just going to keep playing him so he can claim he was value for money.

Think Davis wasnt as bad as a 4, he was at least as good as Ferguson. His problem is he is a central midfielder playing on the wing. Ferguson look back far too often with the ball now while that may be down to having noone making runs ahead of him I think its more down to him being told to keep posession rather than trying to make that incisive pass that might lead to a goal. Selection wise there was no plan to win the game in that line up just not to concede. Celtic were there for the taking. Aside from Brown they didnt seem interested for 90 minutes and we could have really gone for the jugular, that right wing was crying out for someone to attack it. Most depressing thing for me was 28-29 minutes of extra time after O'Dea scored and we barely created anything. 1-0 in a cup final and 10 minutes to go it should be 9 men in the opposition box going for it, nothing to lose, but they almost seemed content losing 1-0

Unfortunately I dont think the club now see promising youngsters as assets to keep hold of as much as walking price tags. Sad fact is even with a £23m release clause wed be biting anyones hands off at £3m. Just hope we see a change in strategy and concentrate on developing youth its just far more cost-efficient than trying to buy a first team.
